As a longtime cinema aficionado who has witnessed the evolution of comic book adaptations over the decades, I must say that this Disneyfied interpretation of The X-Men is an intriguing twist on the mutant saga we’ve come to know and love. With my heart still pounding from the thrilling battles between our beloved heroes and their villainous foes, it brings a chuckle to my soul to envision Cyclops and Wolverine donning those big, Disney-esque eyes and wry smiles.

On Disney+, an animated adaptation of The X-Men premiered, although it might not appear as “Disneyfied” as one might expect. This fresh take on the mutant team, known as X-Men ’97, has received widespread praise from critics. The series revolves around the popular group of mutants who employ their extraordinary abilities to safeguard a society that often loathes and dreads them. The storyline continues where the highly lauded X-Men: The Animated Series left off, with the X-Men confronting formidable new threats in the absence of their leader, Professor X.

As a longtime fan of the X-Men series, I am absolutely thrilled to see the return of my favorite cast members from the beloved 90s show! The roster for this new series boasts a fantastic lineup of talented voice actors who have brought these iconic characters to life.

In terms of live-action movies, the blockbuster hit pairing Deadpool and Wolverine, known as Deadpool & Wolverine, has paved the way for several X-Men characters to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has hinted that this is merely the start of the mutant era. A possible reboot of The X-Men is under consideration, and Feige has even suggested which mutants will be adapted into live-action films in the future…

“In essence, we frequently say at Marvel that we’re dealing with an ‘overabundance of talent,’ and that’s certainly true for the Deadpool & Wolverine movie, given the fantastic X-Men characters it features. Notably, there are numerous excellent X-Men characters in every Fox adaptation of the X-Men films. Moreover, there are many extraordinary X-Men characters yet to make their big screen debut.”

You can currently stream the X-Men series on Disney+. At present, they’re working on creating a second and third season for X-Men ’97.
