As a lifelong fan of both The Simpsons and Marvel, this week feels like Christmas come early! Agatha Harkness, one of my favorite characters from WandaVision, has made a delightful appearance in the latest Simpsons short, “It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year”. It’s simply magical to see her fly through Springfield alongside Disney’s most notorious villains!
If you’ve been savoring “Agatha All Along” through your Disney+ subscription, here’s an exciting tidbit: This week, Agatha Harkness is appearing twice as much! A fresh Simpsons short titled “It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year” has been released on the platform, featuring Agatha Harkness in a Simpson-fied form alongside some of Disney’s toughest antagonists. This crossover is delightful, and it’s not the only connection Agatha Harkness shares with The Simpsons. TopMob had a chat with Simpsons writer/producer Al Jean about this intriguing link.
Agatha Harkness Makes A Cameo In New Simpsons Short
In the latest phase of their partnership, Disney+ is teaming up with The Simpsons once more to produce a fresh episode featuring Kelsey Grammer reprising his role as Sideshow Bob. This time, he’s out for revenge against Bart Simpson and enlists some of Disney’s most notorious villains to wreak havoc in Springfield. With a spooky Halloween twist on “It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year,” the short also includes a cameo by Agatha Harkness, who can be seen soaring through Springfield. Can you spot her?
Agatha Harkness has previously been part of the roster of Disney villains during Disneyland Park’s annual Halloween event at the Avengers Campus. However, she is now gaining recognition as a Disney villain in this short film. When TopMob interviewed Al Jean from “The Simpsons” about her cameo, he commented on it.
Marvel’s performances have always been exceptional, making them an obvious choice whenever we need characters. Coincidentally, Thanos was present in this short episode. Moreover, I was aware that Agatha would appear in upcoming episodes of the series. Since I didn’t know any specific details about those episodes, we decided to feature her fighting Patty and Selma in our short film. However, I strongly felt it was important to incorporate Agatha, knowing well that it would create a significant impact.
Currently, the popular TV show “Agatha All Along” is dominating Disney+ viewership. It’s quite fitting then, that Jean’s cameo in a different series feels particularly significant right now. Interestingly, the creators of “The Simpsons” weren’t privy to the specifics of the Marvel series, such as this week’s major Teen revelation. Nonetheless, it’s thrilling to see Jean joining the Disney Villains group!
Simpsons Writer Reacts To Lisa Simpson Being In The Agatha All Along Credits
However, there’s another link between “Agatha All Along” and “The Simpsons” that you may find interesting. In the show’s credits, Lisa Simpson appears as one of the witches. During our conversation, Al Jean shared his thoughts on this connection.
As a devoted fan, let me tell you, I was taken aback when I discovered that among the illustrious lineup of witches, it was none other than Lisa Simpson. Frankly, I had no idea… Somebody must have given their approval, but it certainly wasn’t me. Yet, I couldn’t help but feel elated. It was a delightful surprise, watching the show for enjoyment and then finding myself right in the middle of it – or rather, seeing Lisa there. Honestly, that just made the experience all the more fantastic!
During the ending scenes, a variety of nods to iconic witches are scattered throughout, such as the Witch (in her enchanted form) from “Snow White” and The Wicked Witch of the West from “The Wizard of Oz”, along with other magical visuals. Here’s where Lisa Simpson makes an appearance:
Al Jean, who’s been part of The Simpsons from its debut in 1989, admitted he wasn’t aware Lisa Simpson was a character until he saw the show. Yet, he thoroughly appreciated the nod to her once he did. Here’s what he said:
I ensured we included Agatha Harkness in our references, and it was a great surprise when she appeared in the credits. It felt like completing a loop. I must say, I’ve really appreciated the show. This week’s episode was outstanding, and I’m thrilled to be associated with its universe.
As a gamer, I can’t forget when Lisa Simpson donned the robes of a Wiccan instead of a typical witch, as she did in “Treehouse of Horror XIX.” In that spooky episode, she corrected Millhouse by saying she wasn’t a witch, but a Wiccan. She then pondered, “Why is it that whenever a woman is strong and powerful, they call her a witch?” I’m keeping my fingers crossed for another Halloween scene like this when the next “Treehouse Of Horror” special airs this season!
Right now, you have a chance to watch the latest episodes of “The Simpsons” on Disney+. Don’t forget to explore other new content available for streaming here at TopMob!
