As a long-time fan who has witnessed Tom Cruise‘s extraordinary feats and relentless dedication to his craft, I must admit that this news about him having a stunt double turn pages for him in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning left me both surprised and amused.

It appears that even a minor injury like a paper cut is one thing Tom Cruise wouldn’t dare risk. So, he’s delegated turning pages to his stunt double in this new movie.
According to a report in The Mirror, it appears that the incident occurred as suggested, and Tom Cruise had a specific reason for asking his stunt double to perform in what seemed like an ordinary scene. A source close to the film production confirms this.
Instead of having someone stand in to turn a page, they provided a body double as a respite for Tom who’s been tirelessly working on completing the movie. However, it remains unclear how turning a page would contribute to this scenario.
In simpler terms, Tom Cruise, who has been acting for quite some time, is renowned for carrying most of the weight in his role as Ethan Hunt. Not only does he act, but he also invests financially in the franchise and produces, even spending additional funds during Covid-19 to ensure the continuation of the Mission series. He’s involved in decisions about the franchise too. It’s a significant responsibility, and filming for the last two Mission installments has taken years upon years.
Consequently, for Tom Cruise’s “Mission: Impossible” films, Director Christopher McQuarrie once pointed out that the process of filming these movies presents a unique challenge unlike any other action films. He shared this insight with CBS News.
When making an action film, the usual dilemma lies in concealing the fact that it’s a stuntman instead of the actor. However, in ‘Mission: Impossible’, the goal is quite different: It aims to reveal that it’s Tom Cruise and not a stuntman who is performing these daring feats.
It seems like a desirable dilemma, as it keeps audiences intrigued and eager to watch the 62-year-old actor on the big screen. While Welby may have shown some skepticism in her remarks, she did acknowledge that viewers accept as commonplace all the efforts Cruise makes to make his films visually stunning. Furthermore, she highlighted the difficulty involved for the actor in carrying out his demanding role.
In essence, without McQuarrie, Cruise, or anyone involved in production verifying it, I can’t be certain whether this is a story or an account of actual events on the set of the new film.
