There’s No Stellar Blade Multiplayer Mod, but There Are Signs of Multiplayer in the Game Files

The player who initially shared a popular split-screen gameplay video of Stellar Blade on social media suggests that the reports claiming modders uncovered a hidden multiplayer mode might not be accurate.

It’s been reported that Stellar Blade developer Shift Up may have incorporated an unused multiplayer mode within the game. However, the individual who unearthed it and posted a video showcasing two-player gameplay on Discord maintains that this is not accurate.

> In a post on X/Twitter, PhantomSomnus expressed frustration about people sharing his Discord clips without proper context, which he had intentionally chosen not to share on Twitter. Later, PhantomSomnus clarified that the split-screen mode found in Unreal Engine was not exclusively created by Shift Up, the developers of Stellar Blade.

Here’s how I managed to load a second instance of Eve into my game: I leveraged Unreal Engine’s native local multiplayer support to create a split-screen multiplayer experience in my project. Contrary to what some might believe, this feature wasn’t developed by Shift Up; it was me, PhantomSomnus, who implemented it.

To be honest, my initial intention for setting up the split-screen mode was simply to see if it could work at all. However, as you can tell from the video I shared on Reddit, my attempt didn’t turn out as planned.

In this video, Stellar Blade modder @phantomSomnus discovered references to multiplayer in the game files. Surprisingly, when a second Eve appeared on screen, the display split into two parts, suggesting that the game might be preparing for local cooperative play (two controllers). #StellarBlade #StellarBladePC

@phantomSomnus found references to multiplayer in Stellar Blade’s files. In this video, when a second Eve was spawned, the screen divided into two, hinting at local cooperative play (two controllers). #StellarBlade #StellarBladePC

Both versions are natural and easy to read while conveying the same information.

PhantomSomnus mentioned that there seem to be indications of a multiplayer aspect in the game, yet these are accessible only online. They had previously shared a screenshot showcasing their findings within the demo’s back-end, which they refer to as an “old discarded multiplayer PVP mode.” However, this particular mode no longer functions, but they did uncover some leftover menus.

As an ardent fan, I can’t help but wonder if there might be any multiplayer updates or mods coming up for Stellar Blade in the future. However, PhantomSomnus has shared that it seems highly improbable.

On June 11, the PC edition of Stellar Blade will debut on Steam with a host of customized features for PC users. These include AI scaling through Nvidia DLSS 4 and AMD FSR 3, an adjustable frame rate, voiceovers in Japanese and Chinese, support for ultrawide displays, improved environment textures, and DualSense compatibility for haptic feedback and trigger effects. Originally restricted to over 100 countries, the game can now be pre-ordered on PC in more than 250 regions.

iggn.ru‘s Stellar Blade review returned a 7/10. We said: “Stellar Blade is great in all of the most important ways for an action game, but dull characters, a lackluster story, and several frustrating elements of its RPG mechanics prevent it from soaring along with the best of the genre.”
