As a cinephile who has lived through the era of these Oscar snubs, I can wholeheartedly empathize with Jon M. Chu, Walter Salles, and Maren Morris. Having grown up during those times and being deeply immersed in the film world, I understand the profound impact that these seemingly overlooked masterpieces had on a generation of aspiring filmmakers like myself.

I believe that ‘Pulp Fiction‘ was a significant oversight, as I was on the verge of starting college at the time, and nearly everyone in film school was captivated by it. However, I understand that the films which truly make an impact aren’t always lauded or acknowledged immediately because it’s often too soon. In my opinion, Quentin Tarantino reshaped the cinematic landscape and inspired a new wave of filmmakers.

The film ‘Raging Bull‘ was truly exceptional; it was worthy of every award it was up for that year.” (Martin Scorsese’s gritty boxing masterpiece was nominated for eight Oscars that season, tying for the most nominations, but only won two – for editing and best actor.)

Barbie filmmaker Greta Gerwig not getting nominated for best director in 2024.

It’s quite unusual that Greta didn’t receive a nomination, and considering her recent success in ‘Little Women’, it’s even more surprising that she was overlooked. It’s downright strange. The influence of ‘Barbie’ on our culture is immense.

Noteworthy recognition: Richard Curtis’ heartwarming 2003 holiday movie, Love Actually. “It didn’t receive the recognition it deserved [from the voting body].” (The film received no Oscar nominations.)
