As a longtime fan of The Boys, I’ve grown deeply connected to each character’s journey, and none more so than Frenchie’s. With his brilliant mind and unwavering desire to take down the evil Supes, he’s been an integral member of The Boys since their inception.
TV series offshoots provide an engaging method to expand a narrative. In relation to “Gen V,” the spin-off of “The Boys,” these two programs ingeniously interconnect. They are set in the same fictional world and share synchronized storylines. The events of “Gen V” Season 1 directly follow those of “The Boys” Season 3. Additionally, some characters from “Gen V” were featured in “The Boys” Season 4, further developing the narrative from the finale of its sister show’s inaugural season.
Now filming the second season of “Gen V” with the narrative continuing from “The Boys” Season 4 finale, there is potential for increased connection between the two shows. Considering how “The Boys” Season 4 concluded, it’s likely that we’ll see the involvement of two specific characters in “Gen V” Season 2.
Frenchie Is Under Mind Control in The Boys
Towards the close of “The Boys” Season 4, Homelander (Anthony Starr), found himself in a stronger position under President Calhoun (David Andrews), formerly Senator Calhoun, who bestowed him with significant influence. A key aspect of his strategy involves eliminating supporters of Starlight (Erin Moriarty) and conferring unrestricted authority and control to Supers.
In the last few moments of the finale, this plan begins to take shape. MM, played by Laz Alonso, is apprehended by Love Sausage (Derek Johns) and a band of men in an airport restroom just as he’s about to board a plane to reunite with his family. Meanwhile, Starlight and Hughie (Jack Quaid), come to a standstill on the road due to the unexpected reappearance of Cindy (Ess Hödlmoser), a former patient from Sage Grove who had been missing since Season 2. Although Starlight manages to escape, Hughie is taken captive by her.
When Cate (Maddie Phillips) and Sam (Asa Germann) encounter Frenchie (Tomer Capone) and Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) in Gen V, the situation becomes particularly alarming. With a touch, Cate, who possesses the ability to control minds, places her hand on Frenchie’s shoulder and murmurs something into his ear. Instantly, Frenchie falls under her spell, mechanically following her to the rear of a van. Kimiko, held back by Sam, lets out a pained cry as she witnesses Frenchie leave. At last, she utters her first word, a desperate “no!”
Cate’s plans for Frenchie remain a mystery. With his exceptional fighting abilities and talent in creating various weapons, it’s plausible that he could be put to good use. However, considering his recent transfer to the Godolkin School of Crimefighting under new leadership, it seems unlikely that we won’t see him in action during Gen V.
While Kimiko is likely exempted, as she’s a Super and apparently not their focus. However, it’s unlikely she’d remain inactive with her new boyfriend undergoing brainwashing against his will.
What’s in Store for Gen V Season 2 and Frenchie?
Towards the finale of Gen V Season 1, an enormous uprising erupted at the school, ignited by Cate’s fury over the revelation of The Woods. Unleashing all Supes, she sought chaos and vengeance against every non-Supe, holding them responsible for the incident. Even as Marie (Jaz Sinclair) attempted to reason with Cate, her mind was beyond saving. Homelander, witnessing Marie injure Cate, branded Marie and her followers as threats rather than Cate. With Cate and Sam, who she had manipulated under her control, now in command, they were hailed as heroes. However, Godolkin University transformed into a new hotbed of fear.
It’s likely that Frenchie is being brought back to Godolkin University for some reason or another, either to contribute to a cause or to be imprisoned like Marie and her friends were at the end of the previous season. If he appears in “Gen V,” he may not be the same beloved Frenchie we’re used to unless Cate has freed him from her mental control. In that case, he might play a crucial role in helping everyone escape if they’re all held captive together.
With his exceptional intelligence, Frenchie might transform into a Super, showcasing this talent in an extraordinary capacity. Alternatively, his formidable fighting abilities could put him at odds with his closest allies, oblivious of the harm he is causing.
As a long-time fan of “The Boys,” I’m thrilled to hear that filming for the second season of “Gen V” has started. However, I have to admit that I’m left with more questions than answers after Season 1. While we know that the show will continue from where Season 4 of “The Boys” ended, there are still many unanswered questions. One of the most pressing ones is about Frenchie’s whereabouts.
Frenchie’s Journey in The Boys So Far
when Billy Butcher, also known as Karl Urban’s character, discovered Hughie and made plans to establish The Boys for the purpose of bringing down Homelander and Vought, one of his initial contacts was an acquaintance named Serge, otherwise referred to as Frenchie. This individual was a versatile criminal underworld figure who operated in various capacities, including acting as a hitman and arms dealer. He possessed a unique talent for creating intricate weapons that could protect him and his team during their illicit activities against Supers.
After getting caught, his skills piqued the interest of Grace Mallory (Laila Robins). She proposed a deal: he could continue creating weapons and gadgets that counteract superhumans for her instead of ending up in jail. Initially reluctant, Frenchie was swayed when faced with the possibility of harsher sentences for his companions. To protect them, he agreed to work for Mallory.
At a critical instant, Frenchie felt deeply remorseful for disobeying Mallory’s command and staying behind to assist his friend who was experiencing an overdose. Unfortunately, this decision led Lamplighter to inadvertently harm Mallory’s grandchildren. Frenchie carried the weight of guilt for this tragic incident, which was compounded when his friend succumbed to a second overdose several months later.
Frenchie is the one who uncovers the method to defeat the seemingly invincible Translucent (Alex Hassell), and he’s the one who reaches Kimiko when she’s initially wild and fearful. After this encounter, Frenchie develops a strong connection and friendship with her, even learning her unique sign language.
In Season 4, Frenchie works diligently to recreate the lethal virus produced against Supes. Sufficient quantity is manufactured for The Boys, leaving them in a dilemma about its application and to whom. By the fourth season, the weight of his past actions begins to haunt Frenchie, leading him to surrender to the authorities. He’s later released due to Butcher’s intervention, but Frenchie remains tormented by self-loathing.
Frenchie is recognized for his exceptional intelligence and strong motivation to defeat Supes, particularly the wicked ones. Though many factors are at play, fans can look forward to discovering more about Frenchie’s role in Season 5 of The Boys as they unfold in Season 2 of Gen V. Given the close connection between the two series, it is now crucial to keep up with both shows to fully grasp the intricate narrative and appreciate how the storylines complement each other.
The premiere date for Season 2 of “The Boys” is still uncertain. Although the first season was launched in September 2023, the production process for Season 2 has been delayed following Perdomo’s passing. Consequently, it may not be available until summer 2025. No definite launch date has been announced yet for the fifth and final season of “The Boys.”
