'They Can't Get Away With It': Kelly Clarkson Gets Real About One Advantage She Has Over Her Male Co-Stars On The Voice

As a long-time fan of Kelly Clarkson, I must admit her ability to blend into the crowd and lead a relatively normal life despite her celebrity status is nothing short of impressive. Her unique talent for disguising herself with a casual mom bun or a hat has always fascinated me. It’s a skill that even her fellow coaches on The Voice could never master, as Blake Shelton and John Legend are easily recognizable wherever they go.

In 2024, when “The Voice” resumes on NBC’s fall TV lineup for the upcoming seasons, Kelly Clarkson, who seems to have permanently stepped down from her coaching role after her talk show relocated from L.A. to New York City, won’t be part of it. However, she may not run out of things to say about her fellow stars from the popular show anytime soon, and she recently joked about a unique advantage she’s always held over her male counterparts.

Compared to coaches like Blake Shelton and John Legend, Kelly Clarkson seems to have an easier time staying out of the limelight when it comes to public attention from fans. When questioned by the Associated Press about rumors that she often uses the subway and if she gets recognized, Clarkson herself admitted:

Absolutely not! Dear lady, I don’t usually appear like this – with all the makeup on – it’s not my everyday look! In reality, you’d find me in a messy bun or a casual hat. It’s only when I start talking that people get surprised, thinking, ‘wait, is that her?’ That’s what gives me away. I have an amazing duo for hair and makeup whom I affectionately call Harry and Potter, and I’m truly fortunate to have them. I’m well aware of my good fortune.

Dressing up and applying makeup can sometimes be a hassle for women, but Clarkson pointed out a unique advantage celebrities have in this area. If she stepped onto the subway with her hair and makeup done to perfection, she’d stand out immediately. However, without her distinctive Southern accent, the American Idol winner would still be easily recognizable. If only she were skilled at mimicking others.

“I addressed my fellow former ‘Voice’ team members because they won’t be part of the new season.

Regardless of where I go with Blake or John, they always have an unmistakable presence about them. They can’t escape their fame, and it seems to follow them everywhere. I consider myself fortunate, as I get to live a relatively ordinary life that isn’t under constant scrutiny. Compared to many in the public eye, my life is quite normal. And, you know what? The subway is just more convenient, so we use it frequently.

Regardless of the amount of makeup and hair products used on Blake Shelton, it’s hard for me to envision any scenario where they would effectively hide his identity. Perhaps if he wore a type of hat other than a cowboy hat or baseball cap, and donned full-color face paint like wrestlers and clowns do, but that might be too extreme for him.

Kelly Clarkson won’t be appearing on American Idol anymore, but she has expressed opinions about Carrie Underwood filling the judge position left by Katy Perry. Earlier, Clarkson made it clear that she had no intention of competing for the role due to her many other commitments, and it’s hard to find fault with her decision.

It’s hard to believe appearing on Idol wouldn’t boost her recognition even further, given how well-known she is already. Here’s to hoping she can enjoy tranquil subway journeys now that this information has been revealed.
