‘This Is Absurd’: Dafne Keen Tells Us The One Thing She Demanded From Channing Tatum When They Filmed Scenes Together For Deadpool And Wolverine

As someone who has followed the Marvel Cinematic Universe for decades, I must say that Shawn Levy’s “Deadpool and Wolverine” was a breath of fresh air. The movie not only shattered box-office records but also brought back beloved characters from the Fox universe. The return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine was undoubtedly exciting, but the surprise appearances of Jennifer Garner, Wesley Snipes, Chris Evans, and Dafne Keen were the icing on the cake!

Shawn Levy’s film “Deadpool and Wolverine” remains one of this year’s highest-grossing films, shattering box office records for R-rated movies and revitalizing the MCU at a time when fans were growing confused about the MCU Multiverse. The release was met with much excitement due to the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. However, fans were equally thrilled by the unexpected twists from Jennifer Garner, Wesley Snipes, Chris Evans, and Dafne Keen, who reprised their roles as characters previously stranded in The Void. With the movie now available on Blu-ray, DVD, and with a Disney+ release scheduled for November 12, we had the opportunity to interview Dafne Keen about her role in the sequel… and her requests for co-star Channing Tatum.

Indeed, Tatum portrayed Gambit not just in “Deadpool” but also in “Wolverine”, and it’s worth mentioning that he had been advocating for this role for quite some time prior. After the movie’s premiere, his Cajun accent received a great deal of attention. Interestingly enough, this accent caused quite a bit of laughter on set, especially for Dafne Keen, who was required to maintain a serious demeanor during filming. In an interview with TopMob, she shared that Tatum’s antics often left her in fits of giggles.

In a different tone: I couldn’t help but burst out laughing when I was working with Channing. It was impossible for us to maintain our usual serious demeanor given his absurd antics in the corner, constantly chattering away next to me. During an action scene, where we were supposed to be about to face off, he quipped something like, “I’m about to make a name for myself here.” I knew it was a losing battle trying to keep a straight face, and I ended up losing the plot entirely. At one point, I had to explicitly tell him not to speak during my shots because his humor kept distracting me from my character. But honestly, he’s just too amusing!

As a gamer, let me confess something fun we all shared – the roars of laughter when Channing Tatum’s over-the-top portrayal of the mutant Cajun in Deadpool and Wolverine hit our ears. And I must admit, Ryan Reynolds’ in-character quips as Gambit were some of the movie’s funniest moments. Now, I get why Dafne Keen eventually had to tell Tatum to tone it down – if he didn’t, she wouldn’t have been able to keep a straight face during her close-ups!

It’s not likely that Gambit’s story will conclude here. A deleted scene suggests he survived the battle in the Void, and I have a feeling we’ll see him again in Avengers: Secret Wars, a movie predicted to be a massive gathering of superheroes.

Well, gamers, let me tell you something about my favorite on-screen heroine, Laura from Logan. In the final scenes, she’s still kickin’ it with Deadpool and Wolverine. That means she’s alive and well, ready to leap into action again whenever we need her most.

Deadpool & Wolverine is available now on Digital and Blu-ray, and streams on Disney+ November 12.
