As a lifelong vinyl enthusiast who’s amassed more records than I can count, I’ve spent countless hours searching for the perfect storage solution that doesn’t compromise on style or functionality. That quest ended when I discovered Bentolabs and their Aurala120A system!
As a passionate vinyl enthusiast with a growing collection, I’ve come to understand that playing records is just one aspect – maintaining them in an aesthetically pleasing and functional space is a whole different ball game. With hundreds (or even thousands) of records at my disposal, it’s not only about investing in a high-quality turntable and speakers; I need a storage solution that caters to both my visual and practical needs.
Established by Grier Govorko, a previous production designer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bentolabs was created with a particular purpose in mind – its storage systems. As a seasoned professional with over two decades of experience in designing grand-scale concert experiences, Govorko has now turned his attention to a more personal design challenge: crafting modular furniture. He wanted to create something that respects both the aesthetic and functional elements of vinyl record collecting.
The Aurala120A is crafted from clear acrylic for a striking floating appearance and offers modular versatility, allowing it to be arranged vertically or horizontally. Each unit can hold up to 120 records, and multiple units can be connected to accommodate an ever-growing collection. This feature, according to Govorko, was inspired by his experience with the Chili Peppers, where he sought to create stage elements that could function individually yet seamlessly blend together to form a unified setup.
According to Govorko, the design of the Aurala120A is reminiscent of the innovative work by designers such as Charles and Ray Eames who experimented with acrylics, and Pierre Paulin who utilized transparent materials for a sense of visual lightness. The Aurala120A carries on this tradition by employing clear acrylic in a way that gives the illusion of architectural impossibility, making your records seem as if they’re floating within the space.
The Aurala120a is available now via the Bentolabs webstore, with each unit priced at $225 USD.
