This Week's Matlock Confirmed My Theory On Who The Big Bad Is, But I'm Still Not Sure If It's A Slam Dunk

As a long-time viewer of legal dramas and a dedicated fan of Matlock since its original run, I must say that this reimagined version has truly taken my breath away! With each episode, the suspense and intrigue have only grown stronger, and “The Rabbit and the Hawk” was no exception.

Heed this notice: Revealed ahead lie plot twists from the Matlock episode titled “The Rabbit and the Hawk” (episode 4). If you’re yet to watch this week’s installment, beware!

Among the standout shows gracing our screens in 2024 TV lineup is the captivating continuation of the reinvented “Matlock” series. Kicking off with a riveting twist featuring Kathy Bates, the story revolves around Madeline Kingston, who’s known to some as Matty Matlock. This former lawyer, in reality named Madeline Kingston, has been engaging in a clever game with Jacobson & Moore law firm, aiming to unmask one of their top three senior lawyers for their indirect role in her daughter’s tragic demise. As a fan, I can’t wait to see how this intriguing mystery unfolds!

For some time now, I’ve been leaning toward knowing who the culprit could be. The latest episode, titled “The Bunny and the Hawk,” appears to support my theory. However, despite what seems like clear evidence – a so-called smoking gun – I have a feeling that this might not be the last word on the subject.

Madeline Matlock’s Top Three Suspects

From the outset, Madeline had identified three individuals as suspects – from the initial flight crew member to the courtroom drama’s Matlock character. These individuals were allegedly involved in concealing papers that permitted Welbrexa Pharmaceuticals to continue selling a deadly opioid. Since this drug claimed the life of her daughter, it served as the catalyst for Madeline to embark on her relentless pursuit.

This text focuses on the three attorneys at Jacobson & Moore who are central figures in the Matlock’s conspiracy board: Howard Markston (played by Beau Bridges), Julian Markston (portrayed by Jason Ritter), and junior partner Olympia Lawrence (played by Skye P. Marshall). After four episodes, it appears that one of these parties is facing a significant amount of evidence against them, making it challenging to present an opposing view at first glance.

My Suspicions Surrounding Howard Looks To Be Stronger Than Ever

From the very first scenes in the pilot episode, I sensed that Howard was the ideal candidate for Matlock’s main antagonist. On a practical note, Beau Bridges might not be interested in a regular TV role, so his recurring character provides him an opportunity to explore this possibility further. However, what stands out most is how “Senior” unveiled his true nature during this week’s case.

Although artist Robert Walton (John Billingsley) secured a $6 million verdict in his wrongful death lawsuit against his apartment building, this triumph was soon overshadowed. It appeared that the senior management at Foundate Financials, the recently acquired company, worked through the night to reorganize their finances for the building segment, ultimately leading to bankruptcy within that part of their portfolio.

A person who isn’t hesitant to perform a Texas Two-Step bankruptcy and conceal evidence is likely someone who could also hide documents like these. At present, Madeline appears to have an essential piece of evidence, as she captured Howard’s signature on a document that sent away an entire, unredacted report regarding the Welbrexa case. However, let’s briefly discuss why our other suspects are currently off the hook.

Olympia And Julian Aren’t Looking Too Evil At The Moment

Initially during Matlock’s first season storyline, the main emphasis was on Madeline’s efforts to uncover Olympia’s possible involvement in everything. However, starting from Episode 3 of Matlock, there have been increasingly personal scenes that seem to be softening her character over time. And in “The Bunny and the Hawk,” she certainly didn’t appear tougher, as she openly criticized Howard’s methods.

In a short while, Julian, who was once married to Olympia, was by her side. Interestingly, he secretly took some glass items from his estranged wife’s father’s trophy cabinet, intending to break them with a golf club. This act of support for his former spouse could potentially lead to another chance for these two unpredictable individuals. If the revival of the famous Matlock theme song must give way for Olympia and Julian’s potential reconciliation…I am willing to accept it.

Why I Almost Assuredly Know Matlock Isn’t Wrapping This Mystery Just Yet

In episode 4 of “Matlock”, we find ourselves in a season that’s been renewed for another round. If the case involving the questionable counselor serves as a key catalyst, it seems like we’re only scratching the surface. As Madeline Kingston herself put it, she needs to establish Howard as the one responsible for this decision.

It seems like Madeline’s pursuit of justice isn’t wrapping up just yet. She might need to delve deeper, perhaps encountering Mrs. B again in the archive room, and dealing with some escalating issues at home. Stay tuned for more on Thursday at 9 p.m. ET on CBS, as “Claws” unfold in Episode 5.

If you’re unable to watch the episode as it airs, don’t worry! Simply log into your Paramount+ account the following day to catch up on what you missed. For now, our session concludes, and we’ll be playing the classic theme tune again soon!
