As someone who’s grown up with the digital age, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia for the apps that have shaped my youth. TikTok is one such app, a platform where creativity thrives and trends are born. The news of its potential ban or sale in the US has left me, like many others, on the edge of my seat.
In April, President Joe Biden approved a law prohibiting the operation of TikTok within the U.S., if its Chinese parent company ByteDance doesn’t transfer ownership to a different entity. TikTok countered this move by initiating a legal action against the U.S. administration.
A group of content creators have filed another lawsuit, seeking the court to halt the implementation of the “sell-or-prohibit” legislation.
Next month, it became known that the federal appeals court would listen to the case in September. On the coming Monday morning, the case will be brought to court for a three-judge panel to consider it. Lawyers representing both sides of the dispute will attend. It is expected that this case might proceed to the U.S. Supreme Court.
In court on Monday, TikTok will have just 15 minutes to make its case to the judges.
