TikTok Joins Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea Film Festival as Sponsor, Unveils Shorts Competition

As a lifelong cinephile and TikTok enthusiast, I am absolutely thrilled about this exciting collaboration between TikTok and the Red Sea International Film Festival (RSIFF). With over a billion users across the globe, TikTok’s vast and diverse community presents an incredible opportunity for filmmakers from all corners of the world to share their stories and connect with audiences in ways previously unimaginable.

TikTok is now among the supporters of the Red Sea International Film Festival (RSIFF), which will take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia from December 5th to 14th for its fourth installment.

The video-sharing platform on social media is launching a fresh short film contest, inviting creators, movie lovers, and professionals worldwide to showcase their talents, connect globally, and share backstage stories. Entrants can upload their unique shorts in the vertical format, using the hashtags #RedSeaIFF24 and #TheNewHomeOfFilm.

Three contestants will be chosen to create their brief movies, and the top winner will be revealed during the Red Sea Souk Awards ceremony at the RSIFF on December 10th.

During the RSIFF as well, TikTok will provide various on-site activities. For instance, they plan to stream live the dazzling opening and closing ceremonies of the festival, conduct exclusive interviews with influential figures in the film industry, actors, and directors, and organize a workshop at the heart of the festival’s business hub, known as the Red Sea Souk or market. This information was shared by the company.

The business, having just introduced TikTok Spotlight – a marketing resource particularly tailored for studios and the entertainment sector, enabling businesses to attach links to their TikTok videos showcasing content related to an upcoming movie or existing library content – claims to have over 1 billion users globally.

In her statement, Samaher Mously, Marketing and Communication Director at the Red Sea Film Foundation, expressed that one of our primary objectives at RSIFF is to amplify films originating from Arab, African, and Asian territories. She believes TikTok, with its vast global user base and dedication to fostering diverse film viewing experiences, makes an ideal collaborator in our endeavor to broaden the reach of our festival to a more international audience.

As a service that values creativity and storytelling, we’re excited to team up with the Red Sea International Film Festival. This partnership underscores our commitment to assisting filmmakers, content creators, and industry experts by offering innovative means to distribute their stories and reach audiences globally. From live-streaming significant festival events to organizing interactive workshops and a short film competition, we can’t wait to demonstrate how TikTok is shaping and motivating the worldwide entertainment sector.” – Kinda Ibrahim, regional general manager of operations at TikTok Middle East, Turkey, Africa, Pakistan, Central and South Asia.

Spike Lee will head up the RSIFF 2024 competition jury.
