As a longtime Toy Story fan who has grown up with Buzz Lightyear and Woody, I can hardly contain my excitement for the return of Tim Allen as Buzz! The actor’s words about the cleverness of the script only make me more eager to see how this new adventure unfolds.
Tim Allen is teasing the return of Buzz Lightyear and Toy Story 5.
The actor says he’s reprising his role in the saga and praised the Pixar project.
As a gamer diving into this fascinating narrative, I can’t help but express my admiration. “This story is exceptionally clever,” I shared with Collider. “Would you believe they’re planning to make five of these movies? I don’t think it’s about the money. I believe their primary goal is success, but that’s not what motivated them. If they hadn’t crafted such an ingenious script, this project wouldn’t have even started and neither Tom [Hanks] nor I would have been involved.” It’s truly clever!
Allen mentioned that he recently completed a five-hour session with Buzz around a week ago. He found it quite unusual getting back into it.
When asked which out of the four movies he likes best, the 71-year-old said, “For me, nothing compares to the first Toy Story… it was just an incredible journey. It’s tough to decide, but I’d lean towards Toy Story 3 as my favorite.
Earlier, Chris Evans replaced the voice role for the 2022 film “Lightyear,” a decision that stirred some controversy among fans. At the time, Allen was quoted saying, “This is a fresh crew with no ties to the initial films. In essence, I’ve kept my distance because it doesn’t involve my character.” He further explained that the “Lightyear” movie appears to have an engaging plot, but it seems disconnected from the toy character.
Pixar Animation Studios has created ‘Toy Story 5’ on behalf of Walt Disney Pictures. This film is helmed by longtime Toy Story series director, Andrew Stanton, who also wrote the script. Co-direction duties are handled by McKenna Harris, while production responsibilities fall to Jessica Choi.
In the latest installment, the tagline for the movie is “Toy Story meets Technology.” The beloved toys – Buzz, Woody, Jesse, and their friends – face a whole new level of challenges as they confront an entirely fresh danger that puts playtime at stake.
At present, Allen is actively publicizing his comeback to television through the forthcoming ABC sitcom titled “Shifting Gears“, where he plays the character of a car restoration shop owner who finds an opportunity to rekindle relationships with his estranged daughter, Kat Dennings, and grandchildren.
Toy Story 5 is slated for release on June 19, 2026.
