Will We Ever See a Galaxy Quest Sequel?
1999 saw the debut of Galaxy Quest, a movie that received enthusiastic praise from critics but didn’t quite capture the public’s attention. However, over time, it has built up a devoted fanbase who regard it as something akin to an unofficial Star Trek film because of its loving homage to the popular franchise, science fiction genre, and dedicated fandom.
In the bustling world of Hollywood sequels, there’s been a lingering question: will the beloved crew of “Galaxy Quest” embark on another adventure? The idea of a comeback was first sparked in 2017, with Amazon Studios aiming to transport us back to the universe of “Galaxy Quest” through a TV series. A big-screen sequel also saw a brief glimmer of hope, but unfortunately, the untimely demise of Alan Rickman in 2016 halted those plans. The latest news suggests that writer Georgia Pritchett (“Succession”) and Simon Pegg (“Spaced”, “Star Trek Beyond”) have started working on the long-awaited series. This has been corroborated by none other than Sam Rockwell, one of the original cast members, who’s expressed his eagerness to rejoin the crew once more.
