Severance, conceived by showrunner Dan Erickson, has garnered critical acclaim as a standout success for the streaming platform. The second installment debuted recently following a three-year hiatus since its premiere in 2019. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Erickson mentioned that global events during this gap, particularly the pandemic and evolving remote work policies, significantly impacted the narrative of season two for the workplace mystery series.
When creating season one, we weren’t sure how returning to work would feel after working remotely for such a long time. This experience influenced how we wrote season two. Furthermore, the change in discussing work and the balance between personal and professional life also evolved due to this return. Although it wasn’t a straightforward process, these discussions likely contributed to events like the [Hollywood] strikes and people rethinking what their work experience should be. These ideas were eventually incorporated into our story.
In addition to Mark Ruffalo, the cast of Severance includes Adam Scott, Britt Lower, Zach Cherry, John Turturro, Jen Tullock, Michael Chernus, Dichen Lachman, Christopher Walken, and Patricia Arquette. Also joining the series are newcomers Sarah Bock and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson.
