As a long-time resident of Minnesota and a fervent supporter of our beloved Governor Tim Walz, I can’t help but feel a sense of pride swelling within me like the mighty Mississippi River. This man, who has guided us through tough times with his Midwestern affability and unwavering resilience, is about to make his debut on the national stage – none other than Jimmy Kimmel Live!
Get ready for a barrage of corny dad humor! Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota is all set to make his first appearance on late-night television. On October 7th, the Democratic vice presidential candidate will be a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
Even though Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate, who was named as such on August 6, has made numerous campaign appearances since then, he hasn’t had many one-on-one TV interviews. The debate with Donald Trump’s running mate J.D. Vance on Monday marked the most television time he’s had so far. Now, he’s scheduled to appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live in Hollywood, an event that is likely to focus significantly on the candidate’s friendly demeanor from the Midwest.
That evening marks Walz’s second appearance. Previously, it was disclosed that Harris would participate in a special edition of 60 Minutes, scheduled for October 7th. This program will include her running mate as well. (Originally, Trump was scheduled to appear on the same episode but decided not to.)
The booking stands out because neither of the presidential candidates nor their running mates have appeared on any late-night shows during this campaign. Predictably, Trump has avoided all stages where he’s often been made fun of. Harris, on the other hand, has chosen to limit her interactions with the media since she took over from President Joe Biden on the Democratic ticket. Thus, Walz’s appearance on Kimmel is quite a significant milestone.
Candidates for president won’t be appearing on Saturday Night Live (SNL), as executive producer Lorne Michaels explained in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter. This is due to election laws and equal time provisions, which mean that if you have one candidate, you must have them all – including minor candidates who are only on the ballot in a few states. Last week’s SNL premiere of its 50th season did feature an impersonation of Minnesota Governor Walz by Jim Gaffigan. Jimmy Kimmel Live airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET on ABC, and episodes can be streamed the next day on Hulu.
