The creator of last year’s highly acclaimed action film, “The Shadow Strays,” has officially announced plans for a follow-up. Originally released in October, director Kimo Stamboel masterminded “The Shadow Strays,” an intense and violent action-thriller that revolves around a 17-year-old assassin who must confront her enigmatic superiors after they abduct an 11-year-old boy. The streaming platform was significantly boosted by the film’s success, prompting Tjahjanto to announce on social media that a sequel is now being developed.
The director recently posted on X/Twitter, announcing the return of “Shadows” with a sneak peek image that we’ll tentatively refer to as “The Stray Shadows 2“. Details about the movie are being kept secret for now, but director Timo Tjahjanto has previously hinted at plans for a sequel to “The Stray Shadows“. In fact, he’s revealed that he’s designed the story as a two-part series and is excited to revisit the dark world of the young assassin and the secretive organization called “the Shadow”.
He mentioned, “We gain so little insight into who these Shadows are or their organization’s history. Questions like what motivates them remain largely unanswered. We hinted at this somewhat in the ending of the first movie. I’m excited about the potential interest for a sequel to this film and hope to delve deeper into their story.
Timo Tjahjanto Is Now Set to Helm a Highly Anticipated Jason Statham Sequel
Under the guidance of director Timo Tjahjanto, the film titled “The Shadow Strays” stars Aurora Ribero in the role of the assassin named 13. The rest of the cast includes Hana Malasan as Umbra, a seasoned assassin who serves as 13’s mentor; Ali Fikry portrays Monji, a young individual who triggers 13’s quest for vengeance; Adipati Dolken takes on the role of the malevolent Prasetyo, and Andri Mashadi plays Ariel, a ruthless crime lord. For more details about the plot, please read the official synopsis provided below.
Title character “Code Name 13,” a seasoned assassin at age 17, currently suspended due to a botched operation in Japan. A chance encounter with Monji, an 11-year-old victim of a criminal syndicate, stirred empathy within her as she developed a sense of morality. When Monji is taken captive, the determined 13 embarks on a destructive path to save him, even if it means defying her mentor and the organization that employs her, known as “The Shadow.
Beyond his ongoing partnership with Netflix, Timo Tjahjanto is poised to showcase his passion for action in Hollywood. Known for directing films such as “The Night Comes for Us” and “The Big 4”, he will initially lead the “Nobody” series, directing “Nobody 2”. This movie will bring back Better Call Saul actor Bob Odenkirk as Hutch Mansell, a character who appears to be a mild-mannered individual (yet is actually a government assassin).
Following this announcement, it’s now clear that Tjahjanto is teaming up with action star Jason Statham for the much-awaited sequel of “The Beekeeper” titled “The Beekeeper 2: To Be or Not to Bee“. The director has also hinted at potential future “Beekeeper” films. For now, specifics are kept secret, but in “The Beekeeper 2”, Statham will reprise his role as the enigmatic Adam Clay, exploring further into the covert group known as “Beekeepers.
