As a seasoned gamer who’s been through the chaos of Comic-Cons and cosplay events, I must say that Timothée Chalamet‘s look-alike contest in NYC sounds like an exhilarating, albeit slightly chaotic, event straight out of a virtual reality game. The excitement, the anticipation, and the unexpected twists (like mistaking a fan for the actor himself) are all too familiar.
On Sunday in New York City, Timothée Chalamet astonished fans by showing up at a doppelganger contest that he himself was participating in. The lively occasion led to at least one arrest.
At the event, Timothée Chalamet took pictures with numerous individuals resembling him, quite a few of whom had donned costumes representing his most iconic roles, such as Willy Wonka and Paul Atreides from Dune. According to The Associated Press, there was a great deal of confusion at the event, with Chalamet being guarded by bodyguards and some spectators apparently mistaking the doppelgängers for the actual actor himself.
The contest, earlier promoted through flyers across New York, was one of several doppelganger events organized by YouTuber Anthony Po, offering a $50 reward to the victor. Onstage, double versions of celebrities like Kylie Jenner, Chalamet’s rumored girlfriend, and the bilingual Little Women actor were interviewed about their future plans, including their French language skills. In the end, Miles Mitchell, dressed as Willy Wonka, emerged as the winner.
A large number of people responded that they would attend, and prior to Timothée Chalamet’s arrival, the police instructed a crowd to leave Washington Square Park, where organizers were penalized for hosting an unauthorized costume competition, according to AP. One participant was taken into custody during the event.
Paige Nguyen, the producer of Po, shared with AP that what began as a playful jest eventually led to chaos.
Timothée Chalamet is at present in New York, working on “Marty Supreme”, the latest venture by director Josh Safdie. This upcoming American sports drama has quite a few secrets still hidden within its production process. The cast includes Gwyneth Paltrow, Tyler, the Creator, Odessa A’zion, Penn Jillette, Kevin O’Leary, Abel Ferrara, and Fran Drescher.
