As a longtime observer of the silver screen and small one too, I must say that the trajectory of Timothée Chalamet’s career is nothing short of remarkable. From his humble beginnings on TV shows like Law & Order and Royal Pains, to his current status as an Oscar-nominated heartthrob, he has proven time and again that talent and hard work truly pay off.
Timothée Chalamet has made a significant mark in Hollywood, collaborating with esteemed filmmakers such as Martin Scorsese and Christopher Nolan. In 2024, he starred as the main character in one of the year’s most anticipated blockbusters, “Dune: Part Two.” Currently, Chalamet is portraying musical legend Bob Dylan in the upcoming film “A Complete Unknown,” set for release in December. Notably, his likeness sparked a look-alike competition that drew a large crowd in New York (although he didn’t take home the prize).
Prior to his film debut, five years earlier, Timothée Chalamet made his first appearance on screen in an episode of Law & Order. This iconic criminal justice series, currently airing its 24th season on NBC, was where Chalamet had a brief role. Although it’s exciting to see him, the joy is fleeting as the episode swiftly takes a grim turn.
What Was Timothée Chalamet’s Role in Law & Order?
In the tenth installment of the 19th season, Timothée Chalamet features on an episode titled “Pledge.” This episode revolves around a crime linked to a sorority, which explains its name. Specifically, Chalamet takes on the character of Eric Foley, who is the son of a woman who was once part of this sorority.
Timothée Chalamet appears considerably younger than the adult version of himself we’ve grown accustomed to. Given that he was born on December 27, 1995, this means he had only recently turned 13 when the episode first aired on January 21, 2009. The initial scenes show him acting like a typical teenager, hanging out with friends and playing video games, before he’s reprimanded by the family housekeeper.
Regrettably, viewers only get a brief glimpse into Timothée Chalamet’s character. In less than a minute, even before the opening credits begin, Detectives Cyrus Lupo and Kevin Bernard are already at the Foley apartment, probing the murder of Eric Foley and the housekeeper.
The ‘Law & Order’ Team Finds Chalamet’s Murderer
As an ardent follower of crime mysteries, I can’t help but be captivated by the chilling case of Eric Foley. Detectives Cyrus Lupo and Kevin Bernard stumbled upon him, lifeless on his room’s floor, with a strand of hair meticulously cut out. The detectives delved into the world of the Foleys, esteemed biologists, to piece together the puzzle.
The card poses a risk for Joyce and has been sent from Amherst, Massachusetts. Lupo and Bernard converse with Lasky’s editor, who discloses that Lasky was merely a fact-checker but requested to pen a story about the Foleys. Upon disturbing the Foleys during Eric’s funeral, the investigators visit Lasky’s wife, who claims she doesn’t know where Ned was for the past week and fails to provide any valuable insights to Lupo and Bernard.
The detectives remain confident that they can implicate Lasky in Eric Foley’s demise. Interestingly, Lasky’s spouse mentioned that the family doesn’t often embark on lengthy journeys; however, the odometer reading on Lasky’s vehicle indicates a 400-mile increase since its last inspection two weeks ago, which is 50 miles more than the distance to Amherst.
Following discussions with Lasky’s daughter and his therapist, the Law & Order squad gathers sufficient details to bring Lasky before a court. As Connie Rubirosa, the show’s assistant district attorney, continues her investigation to secure a conviction against Lasky, she discovers that Joyce was studying at Dartmouth College concurrently with Lasky in Amherst. However, Joyce speculates that they might not have crossed paths, as she only visited Amherst for football matches.
In another turn of events, district attorney Michael Cutter discovers from Ned Lasky’s former college roommate that Lasky had been expelled from a Kappa Delta Alpha sorority party due to his harassment of one woman named Susan. A member of the sorority, Joyce, recalls having kicked someone out at a party in the past. Later on, when Susan is brought into court by the Law & Order team, Lasky’s anger erupts, leading him to confess that he had murdered a college acquaintance, portrayed by Timothée Chalamet, due to being rejected by him.
Timothée Chalamet’s Short-Lived TV Career
Before starring in “Law & Order”, Timothée Chalamet had previously made an appearance on the TV show “Royal Pains”. In fact, he played a four-episode role at the end of season three and the start of season four. His character was portrayed as a genius and he was the nephew of one of the main characters, Jill, in the series.
In Season 2 of Homeland on Showtime, Chalamet portrayed Finn Walden, the pampered son of the vice president. On this series, he befriends one of the other characters’ children, Dana Brody. Tragically, after eight episodes, Walden meets an untimely end due to a bomb explosion.
Prior to his cinematic debut, Chalamet had already made an appearance on TV. In the same year as his guest role in “Law & Order”, he portrayed a younger version of one of the lead characters in the Hallmark Hall of Fame film titled “Loving Leah”.
Since 2014, when Timothée Chalamet starred in Interstellar, he’s been focusing solely on movie roles. This decision has proven fruitful for him, as his impressive performances this year in two potential Oscar-winning films could make him the youngest actor to win the Best Actor award.
