Tissellistudioarchitetti, an Italian architecture firm, has revealed a distinctive modern renovation of a historical penthouse situated in Forlì, Italy. This restoration followed the stringent regulations set by the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts, and Landscape. The apartment now exudes a spacious, pared-down ambiance, yet it retains significant historic architectural elements and features a completely revamped staircase, lending it a rich, distinctive personality.

In this design, the studio labels the striking golden staircase as the “star of the show.” It stands prominently at the heart of the main living area, casting a warm, reflective amber light on the predominantly white walls. The railing, adorned with large colored mirrors, contributes an intriguing sculptural aspect while preserving the building’s historical charm and integrity.

Perched up the stairs, a diagonally-angled ceiling adorned with weathered wood slats stands out against pristine mirrors and gleaming titanium walls. Even the large beams, whitewashed yet displaying visible cracks and natural imperfections, underscore the lived-in charm of this gaming den.

In the kitchen, chrome-finished surfaces create a waterfall-like cascade, spanning from cabinets, countertops, and up the adjoining wall. The juxtaposition of materials is delightful as the golden sheen of the staircase contrasts with the silvery reflection cast by the kitchen’s surfaces.

In other areas, the bathroom is designed with rounded corners and smooth curves, featuring a circular mirror and a sink that fits snugly against the body when standing in front of it. Sunlight streaming through a skylight illuminates the shower, and the mirror inside gives off a gentle radiance. A glass partition in the bathroom distributes light to the adjoining room effectively. Another skylight showers the bed with bright daylight, while an entire wall of mirrors scatters the light throughout the bedroom.
