As a lifelong fan of both vintage timepieces and classic anime, this Tissot x UFO Robot Grendizer collaboration has me absolutely thrilled! Growing up with the Mazinger Z series and now seeing these iconic characters grace the face of a sleek, modern watch is nothing short of a dream come true.
Tissot unveiled a surprising partnership on their PRX watch model, this time teaming up with Go Nagai’s renowned mecha manga, “UFO Robot Grendizer” – marking the third installment in the popular “Mazinger” series.
In this partnership, we find a unique team-up of two distinct icons from the ’70s, offering a blend of nostalgia and contemporary allure. The watch, housed within a classic PRX tonneau-shaped case, boasts a diameter of 40mm and is crafted with sturdy stainless steel, complemented by an accompanying metal band.
On the watch face, the main character, a robot, is highlighted in a deep galactic shade of blue. In the dark, the robot’s head gleams with a warm golden-yellow radiance due to its Super-LumiNova® coating. The indices and hands around Grendizer are illuminated with blue lume for a harmonious yet striking visual effect. A Harken emblem adorns the tip of the central seconds hand, honoring Grendizer’s iconic weapon.
On the open caseback, you’ll find a carving of Grendizer’s bust, while on the watch’s outer edge, there’s a subtle tribute to the manga’s origins with an engraving of “UFO Robo Grendizer” – its original Japanese title.
Similar to Tissot’s standard specifications for the PRX model, the 40mm UFO Robot Grendizer Special Edition watch is equipped with the Powermatic 80 movement and can be purchased directly from the brand at a price of $825 USD.
