Titmouse, the animation studio known for producing “Big Mouth”, is planning to create another television series focusing on adolescence, but with a dark and eerie twist. They are working on an animated adaptation of Image Comics’ “Nights”, a comic book series that delves into adolescence with a supernatural flair, as it enters its second phase of release.
According to a recent report in The Hollywood Reporter, Wyatt Kennedy, the writer, and Luigi Formisano, the artist, of the comic book are set to contribute to its animated adaptation. Interestingly, they have always imagined the series as an animation rather than something more live-action. Titmouse, the production studio behind shows like Legend of Vox Machina, The Venture Bros., Star Trek: Lower Decks, Frog and Toad, and Beavis and Butt-Head, aims to preserve the animation style reminiscent of the late ’90s and early 2000s while infusing elements of anime and indie influences. For those who might not know, Titmouse is the studio responsible for these animated series.
‘Nights’ Will Be A Labor Of Love For Everyone Involved
If you’re an enthusiast of the series and have concerns about its adaptation, there’s no need for worry. Alexei Bochenek, the creative director at Titmouse, has shared his insights on the project, indicating a deep grasp of the narrative’s core: he truly comprehends the essence of the story being portrayed.
Watching ‘Nights’ takes me back to those late-night hours when I’d tune into Toonami to catch the mind-bending adventures of FLCL. It wasn’t just the animation that left me spellbound, but the uncanny way it mirrored my inner world – a blend of dreams, fears, hopes, and everything in between. If you’ve been there, you know exactly what I mean. My goal with ‘Nights’ is to recreate that magical feeling for fellow animation enthusiasts who’ve longed for this sensation since their first FLCL encounter, while also inviting a new generation of viewers into the transformative journey of discovering themselves through a series that truly sees them and empowers them to become its biggest advocates. That’s what ‘Nights’ is all about.
The story, titled “Nights,” is a blend of ordinary life and supernatural elements, set in the year 2003, when humans shared their world with beings not typically found on Earth. This narrative unfolds in an alternate America consisting of just 31 states, one of which is Florida, where our main character, Vince Okonma, resides. However, life for Vince isn’t as carefree as it might seem, given that he has lost his parents and now lives with his clandestine cousin, who happens to be a mercenary, along with the cousin’s roommate who creates video games. To make matters even more intriguing, Vince is friends with what is described as “the greatest vampire who’s ever lived.” Therefore, we can expect some extraordinary events in this tale.
In a supernatural post-apocalyptic setting at the turn of the century, this story could be rephrased as follows: A teen drama, devoid of divine elements yet filled with classic teenage angst. This tale, set amidst the dawning of a new era, has all the makings of a cultural phenomenon that transcends generations. The reason behind this description is that it seems poised to become an iconic shared experience for many. It’s no wonder Bochenek referred to it as a “generational experience in the making.
It’s not feasible for every show to be like “BoJack Horseman” or “Big Mouth”, you feel me? However, it’s still worth striving for that level of quality. Fingers crossed that Titmouse and the “Nights” team manage to pull it off. We’ll be sitting in our old JNCO jeans, pondering which mystical creature would have shared our love for emo music back then, and how this creature could embody the same energy as Maya Rudolph’s Hormone Monstress from “Big Mouth”.
