Tom Ellis to Star in New FBI Spinoff

The production of a fresh spin-off show has been confirmed, and it’s been disclosed that the talented actor Tom Ellis from Lucifer is set to take on a major role in the series.

According to recent news, Tom Ellis has been confirmed as one of the two main actors for a new series called CIA, which is set within the FBI universe and focuses on the exploits of CIA agents. At this point, his co-star’s name has yet to be disclosed. CBS has officially ordered the show to air during the 2025-26 television season. This information comes after earlier reports from January, which also mentioned that the initial plan was for CIA to make its debut through a backdoor pilot episode on FBI.

a quick-witted, law-bending CIA operative (Ellis) and a strict, experienced FBI agent who values the rule of law. Stationed at the CIA’s New York office, these two mismatched partners must learn to collaborate as they tackle cases and domestic threats from criminals. In the process, they discover that their contrasting styles could be the key to their success.

The TV series “CIA” originates from the creative minds of writers and executive producers, including Dick Wolf, David Hudgins, Nicole Perlman, and David Chasteen. It’s David Hudgins who will be overseeing the series as its showrunner, with Peter Jankowski joining the team as another executive producer.

Tom Ellis is particularly famous for his role as Lucifer Morningstar in the popular series, which is an adaptation of the original DC Comics tale. After spending three seasons on Fox, the show was relocated to Netflix due to strong fan interest, where it continued for another three seasons. Lately, Ellis has been seen in the Hulu series “Tell Me Lies,” and he will also feature in the forthcoming Hulu adaptation of “Washington Black” alongside Ernest Kingsley Jr. and Sterling K. Brown. His other notable TV performances include those in “Miranda,” “Rush,” and “The Strain.

FBI Gets a New Offshoot After Canceling 2 Spinoffs

Following the cancellation of two spinoffs, “FBI: Most Wanted” and “FBI: International,” CBS decided not to renew them. In contrast, the original “FBI” series looks promising as it was already granted a three-season extension in 2024, with the first season of this extension now underway. It is uncertain if another spinoff will emerge later on.

As a movie enthusiast, I’m excited to share that my favorite network is cooking up more expansions for various franchises! In the pipeline, we have a spin-off of “The Equalizer” that’s being developed. Moreover, both “Fire Country” and “Blue Bloods” are getting their own spinoffs. The former is titled “Sheriff Country,” while the latter will be known as “Boston Blue.” Can’t wait to see what these new stories bring!
