Tom Hanks Back at War: You Won’t Believe What’s Next for Greyhound

Over four years after its premiere, the World War II action epic Greyhound, produced by Apple TV, is slated to receive a follow-up film. Tom Hanks is expected to reprise his role as Captain Krause in this sequel. The original movie, with a 78% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, was initially planned for release through Sony Pictures. However, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, it was postponed and eventually acquired by Apple TV+, who are now working on a sequel with the original team returning to portray another WWI battle.

As reported by Deadline, Tom Hanks will commence filming the sequel to ‘Greyhound’ in January 2026, with shooting taking place in Sydney, Australia. The sequel was initially announced in 2022, but production has only recently started. In this new installment, Hanks will reprise his leading role, and Stephen Graham, who starred in ‘Adolescence’, is in talks to join him again. According to the latest reports, the storyline will trace Krause and the Greyhound crew from the shores of Normandy to the Pacific Ocean as they contribute to the turning point of the war.

As a seasoned movie critic, I’ve recently had the privilege of watching “Greyhound,” a gripping tale starring Tom Hanks as a veteran Navy captain embarking on his first command. In this harrowing journey, he is tasked with safeguarding a convoy of 37 ships laden with soldiers and essential supplies across the tumultuous Atlantic during World War II. For five days without air support, our hero and his tiny flotilla of three escort vessels must navigate through a notorious stretch of ocean known as ‘the Black Pit,’ fending off relentless Nazi U-boats while shielding their inestimable ships and soldiers. ‘Greyhound’ is an enthralling dramatization drawn from real events during the Battle of the Atlantic, which unfolded in the initial stages of America’s partnership with Great Britain and the Allied Forces.
