Tom Hardy Shocks Fans with Surprising Truth About Venom and Spider-Man Crossover!

The genre of superheroes continues to thrive without any signs of slowing, as multiple cinematic worlds fight it out at the box office. This includes Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, which has been conspicuous by its absence of Tom Holland’s character. Recently, Tom Hardy made headlines for hinting at a potential crossover with Spider-Man, and now he’s elaborating on his statement. Here’s the lowdown on it all.

For years, ardent Marvel movie fans had been anticipating a meeting between Eddie Brock (Venom) and Peter Parker, but their hopes were consistently dashed. However, the credits scene of Venom 2 hinted at this encounter, as Venom traversed the multiverse following Doctor Strange’s spell in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Yet, the meeting never materialized, and Tom Hardy addressed the viral speculation about his comments in an interview with THR, stating:

To clarify, what I mentioned earlier wasn’t about my kids watching Venom specifically. It was more about the difficulty in explaining to young children why their favorite superheroes can’t appear together in a film, which is indeed unfortunate. We almost managed to make that happen, but unfortunately, it didn’t come to fruition. That’s simply the truth – it didn’t happen. The Spider-Man movie series, which could have been connected, didn’t materialize as planned, thus ending the trilogy. It wasn’t terminated or destroyed; it just didn’t occur as we had hoped.

Indeed, that’s now much easier to understand. The term “close” in this context seems to imply Tom Hardy’s character was moved across different universes, or the multiverse. Sadly, it appears he didn’t encounter Peter Parker, and the opening scene of Venom 3 showed his return to his original universe. Aww, too bad.

Even though Hardy has clarified his comments, it’s still likely to ignite discussions on the internet among comic book enthusiasts. This is because he hinted at being involved in “No Way Home” alongside villains such as Doc Ock, Green Goblin, Electro, and others. It’s no wonder that many cinema-goers are hopeful that this did, in fact, take place.

Hardy reiterated his thoughts, expressing disappointment that young spectators won’t witness Spider-Man and Venom fighting on the big screen. These characters share a deep bond in comic books, making it seem almost destined. This was further emphasized when the ending of “Let There Be Carnage” seemed to hint at it. Unfortunately, it seems unlikely that we’ll ever watch Hardy and Holland sharing the screen as these cherished characters in a movie.

It’s quite puzzling that the three “Venom” films didn’t feature a crossover with other characters, especially since Spider-Man’s absence from Sony’s franchise appears to have had a detrimental impact on movies like “Morbius”, “Kraven the Hunter”, and “Madame Web”.

As a diehard Spidey fan, I can hardly contain my excitement! Tom Holland will be back as Peter Parker for the highly-anticipated film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, hitting theaters on July 31st, 2026. With this in mind, it’s safe to assume that we won’t see the web-slinger making any guest appearances on the 2025 movie release list.
