As a cinephile with over three decades of movie-watching under my belt, I must say that the upcoming collaboration between Tom Holland and Austin Butler is nothing short of exhilarating. These two young stars have proven their mettle time and again, and their team-up for “American Speed” promises to be a riveting ride.
Two highly popular young actors active in Hollywood currently are joining forces for an upcoming thriller at Amazon MGM Studios. Tom Holland and Austin will be revving up their performances in the movie titled “American Speed“, which is inspired by a real-life tale of race car driving and drug trafficking.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon MGM Studios has secured distribution rights for the upcoming film “American Speed,” starring Zac Efron and Chris Hemsworth. Produced by Charles Roven from his Atlas Entertainment label, this project based on real events follows the Whittington brothers, a trio of race car drivers who were embroiled in the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) scandal that extended beyond the racetrack into money laundering, tax evasion, and drug trafficking. While it’s not clear which brother each actor will portray, there’s speculation that Efron and Hemsworth might be cast as the more villainous of the three, given their roles could attract more viewers due to the intrigue they might bring.
In the vibrant realm of up-and-coming stars, Holland and Butler stand out alongside talents like Timothée Chalamet, Florence Pugh, Zendaya, and Anya Taylor-Joy. These individuals are frequently highlighted as the future pillars of cinema by industry insiders. Bringing Holland and Butler together in a project could be highly impactful if marketed effectively, striking a chord with audiences on multiple fronts.
Tom Holland & Austin Butler Have Many New Projects Lined Up
Recently, Holland has been quite occupied, amassing roles after a short break post-“Spider-Man: No Way Home” and “The Crowded Room” on Apple TV+. He’s made significant personal shifts, with the most notable being his decision to live soberly, which spawned his non-alcoholic beer brand, Bero. Creatively, the actor is set to commence filming the fourth MCU Spider-Man movie next summer for a July 2026 premiere, and he’s also jointly spearheading Christopher Nolan’s secretive upcoming project with Matt Damon. With other speculated films like the Fred Astaire biopic and “Uncharted 2,” Holland appears ready to embark on the next chapter of his career.
Since his Oscar nomination for the movie “Elvis”, Butler has proven he isn’t lazy. He’s now working on the Darren Aronofsky thriller titled “Caught Stealing” and had an impressive year in 2024. In “Dune: Part Two”, Butler gave a memorable performance as Feyd-Rautha, and later released Jeff Nichols’ film “The Bikeriders”, which was initially scheduled for 2023 but eventually premiered under Focus Features. On the small screen, he played Gale Cleven in the miniseries “Masters of the Air”, a war drama linked to both the 2001 production “Band of Brothers” and its 2010 continuation “The Pacific”. Additionally, Butler is involved with Ari Aster’s upcoming project, “Eddington”, a Western featuring stars like Joaquin Phoenix, Emma Stone, and Luke Grimes. This film will be distributed by A24.
