Tom Holland, Austin Butler’s Race Car-Focused ‘American Speed’ Lands at Amazon MGM

As a seasoned gamer with a knack for predicting movie successes, I can’t help but feel a thrill of anticipation at the news of Tom Holland and Austin Butler teaming up for Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming project, American Speed. With their impressive resumes and the intriguing storyline based on a true-life drama, this film promises to be an adrenaline-fueled ride that will leave us all breathless!

A feature project starring Tom Holland and Austin Butler is revving up for Amazon MGM Studios.

The production house has secured a deal for the movie titled “American Speed“, featuring two lead actors. The renowned producer Charles Roven, known for his work on “Oppenheimer“, will be producing this film under his banner Atlas Entertainment. Additionally, RD Whittington and Douglas Banker are also involved in the production process. Ryan Sanak holds the position of executive producer within Atlas Entertainment for this project.

Screenwriter Dan Wiedenhaupt is crafting the script for a movie inspired by real events, titled American Speed. This film focuses on the Whittington brothers, who were three skilled race car drivers. Intriguingly, two of these brothers were entangled in the IMSA scandal from the 1980s, a sordid affair that led to multiple racers being accused of illicit activities such as funding their racing endeavors through drug trafficking, tax evasion, and money laundering.

A director has not yet been announced, nor has a release plan.

Recently, Holland has been quite occupied. He’s going to act alongside Matt Damon in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming Universal Pictures film, which is scheduled for release in the summer of 2026. Additionally, Spider-Man 4 from Sony is set to premiere in cinemas during the same year for Holland.

Upcoming works by Butler feature in Darren Aronofsky’s “Caught Stealing” and Ari Aster’s “Eddington”. This year, you may have seen him in “Dune: Part Two” and “The Bikeriders”, and he earned an Oscar nomination for his lead role in “Elvis”.

Holland is managed by WME, Shelter PR, and Sloane Offer; Butler has WME, Anonymous Content, Sloane Offer, and The Lede Company handling their affairs; Wiedenhaupt is under the care of WME, Adam Kolbrenner at Lit Entertainment Group, and attorney Jeff Frankel; while Roven is represented by WME and Michael Schenkman as their legal representative.

Deadline was first to report on Amazon MGM Studios landing the package.
