Top YouTube Creators Sign On to Use Tool Meant to Protect Their Likenesses on the Platform

Notable YouTube personalities are joining an experimental project, which aims to provide prominent individuals with greater authority over how their images are presented within the platform.

According to the video platform’s announcement, well-known creators such as Mr. Beast (Jimmy Donaldson), MKBHD (Marques Brownlee), and Mark Rober have agreed to trial the new tool that was unveiled last year. The deployment of this tool coincides with the rapid advancement of generative AI technology, making it nearly effortless to mimic a celebrity’s appearance or voice.

Last year, YouTube revealed their new tool in partnership with CAA, inviting athletes, musicians, and other notable figures to test it through a pilot program. Now, I’m thrilled to learn that they’ve broadened the scope of this initiative, including high-profile creators like me!

This tool presents artificial intelligence-created content depicting a well-known figure’s appearance, offering them the option to ask for its removal if desired.

YouTube announced an expansion of its pilot program on the day that Senators Chris Coons (D-DE), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Thom Tillis (R-NC) reintroduced the NO FAKES Act, which aims to protect original content, foster art, and ensure safety in entertainment.

I’m gladly aligned with YouTube on this bill, joined by esteemed organizations such as the Morton Picture Association, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA), among others. We stand united in our support for this legislation.
