Toyota Revives Rally Legacy with GR86 Concept at SEMA 2024

As a long-time fan of Toyota and rally racing, the GR86 Rally Legacy Concept at the 2024 SEMA Show left me absolutely spellbound! Growing up with the iconic Celica GT-Four rally cars from the ’90s, this modern reimagining is like a dream come true for me.

At the 2024 SEMA Show held in Las Vegas, Toyota presented the GR86 Rally Legacy Concept – a breathtaking homage to its storied rally history. This design is inspired by the legendary Celica GT-Four rally vehicles from the ’90s, seamlessly blending nostalgic rally passion with cutting-edge performance technology that Toyota has developed today.

The GR86 Rally Legacy Concept, based on the 2024 GR86 Performance Package, integrates a 3-cylinder turbocharged GR-FOUR AWD system, borrowed from the GR Corolla. This powertrain transformation required extensive modifications to the GR86’s chassis and suspension. A custom subframe and engine mounts were added to accommodate the G16E-GTS engine, along with bespoke front suspension components and custom coil-over dampers. The rear axle setup includes the GR Corolla’s differential, ensuring balanced power distribution and seamless electronics functionality.

The GR86 Rally Legacy Concept boasts an exterior painted Halo White, highlighted with Toyota Gazoo Racing’s signature red and green color scheme, large red mudflaps reminiscent of rallies, and a spoiler inspired by the Celica GT-Four. Inside, racing seats, red six-point harnesses, and a fully painted white roll cage are installed to heighten its rally-ready atmosphere.

Mike Tripp, Toyota’s Vice President of Marketing, stated that this idea is like a dream made real for GR and Toyota Rally enthusiasts. He further explained that it’s a tribute to our rally heritage and a way to commemorate the excitement of our motorsports journey ahead.

From November 5th to 8th, attendees can get a close look at the GR86 Rally Legacy Concept, which boasts 300 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, on display at Toyota’s booth in the Central Hall.
