As a dedicated fan of crime drama and action-adventure television, I can hardly contain my excitement for the return of Tracker this fall! The news that Jensen Ackles will be reprising his role as Russell Shaw has sent shockwaves through the fandom, and I couldn’t be more thrilled.
Following immense fan appreciation for crime dramas and action-adventure TV, the show “Tracker” is preparing for its second season this autumn. The excitement for the return of Jensen Ackles to a larger role than previously has further fueled anticipation for the upcoming season of the popular CBS series.
At San Diego’s Comic-Con 2024 last month, actors Justin Hartley and “Tracker” executive producer Elwood Reid discussed Season 2 expectations with ComicBook, keeping details about the plot under wraps but highlighting how seamlessly Hartley’s character, Colter Shaw, fits into the storyline, revealing new dimensions of his performance. Additionally, Reid stressed the importance of Jared Padalecki (Ackles’ on-screen character) returning for a stronger overall narrative, as shared by Hartley during their interview.
“It’s fantastic! The dynamic you’ve created is superbly crafted. Your portrayal of the brother character is spot-on, capturing a complex relationship filled with strife due to their past experiences. Yet, it’s also a brotherhood, as evident from the initial silence and lack of contact between them. Now, they find themselves working together, which adds an intriguing layer to the storyline.
As a dedicated admirer, I follow Tracker – an exceptional survivalist and lone wolf tracker who assists both law enforcement and civilians in their quests to find missing individuals and solve crimes. Often working on a financial basis, this character is modeled after Jeffery Deaver’s novel creation, Colter Shaw. Upon its debut, the series was lauded by critics and fellow enthusiasts for staying authentic to the genre, making it an exciting addition to my must-watch list.
Justin and Ackles Share An Incredible Dynamic On Set
Initially, Jensen Ackles joined the cast of “Tracker” in Season 1, taking on the role of Russell Shaw, Colter’s long-lost brother. The enigma surrounding his character built intrigue throughout the first season, leaving viewers eager for his grand entrance. Unsurprisingly, Ackles brought depth to the storyline with his portrayal of Russell. Moreover, Reid was thrilled about casting Ackles and appreciated the camaraderie between Ackles and Hartley off-screen, noting that their relationship made it simpler for him to develop Russell Shaw’s character further.
“When Hartley and Ackles are together, it feels less like acting and more like a whirlwind. Writing for them is always nerve-wracking because I wonder if they’ll have the right chemistry. Their dynamic – I didn’t need to say anything. It spoke for itself. I was initially concerned, thinking it might be disastrous since I’ve worked with Jensen before and you never know. However, it turned out to be quite amusing. During the first few days of filming, I was there, just observing. I thought, ‘Ah, this is what this is.’ But they showed me how to write their scenes to capture their chemistry. It was amazing… They have a long history together too. So, when they step onto set, you can immediately sense it. That’s quite unusual in our line of work to feel that connection.”
Although they didn’t film extensively for over a hundred hours, Hartley and Ackles have a longstanding friendship and a strong working relationship that convincingly portrays their on-screen brotherhood. The second season will explore Colter’s complex family issues and his troubled history with Russell in more depth. Ackles’ return will add fresh layers of intrigue to the exciting and suspenseful narrative of the upcoming season.
