Tracy Morgan Teams Up with Daniel Radcliffe for New TV Show: Unlikely Duo Takes on Comedy

Known primarily for his role in Tina Fey’s satirical sitcom 30 Rock, which can be streamed on Hulu, Tracy Morgan boasts numerous other credits. Among these is a four-year stint as Tray Barker on the TBS comedy series The Last O.G., which concluded in 2021. Now, four years later, Morgan is returning to television, and his new co-star is an unexpected one – Daniel Radcliffe.

Last week, Variety announced the upcoming untitled comedy series starring Danny Morgan, and now we have more details to share. The show, conceived by Tina Fey along with other ex-creatives from 30 Rock and SNL, will center around Reggie, a fallen football player (played by Morgan). At this point, not many specifics about Morgan’s character have been disclosed; however, we are starting to get more information regarding John Radcliffe’s role.

In the upcoming biographical comedy “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story,” its leading actor will portray Arthur Tobin, a renowned movie maker with ambitions to produce an engaging documentary on Reggie. To make this happen, Arthur decides to relocate to Reggie’s grand residence.

The sports comedy without a title has been confirmed as a single-camera series, but it’s undecided whether it will follow the format of mockumentaries like “The Office” or “Abbott Elementary.” Unlike “30 Rock,” it might incorporate elements similar to mockumentaries, such as talking-head segments, given that Radcliffe portrays a documentary filmmaker.

If this fits the description, it would seem perfectly suited to join NBC’s other successful shows such as The Office, Parks and Recreation, and St. Denis Medical (both airing on NBC and Peacock).

For the first time, Morgan and Radcliffe will appear together on stage in this NBC pilot, but it’s not Daniel Radcliffe’s initial foray into comedy television, nor is it his first collaboration with Fey. In fact, they previously worked together during Radcliffe’s appearance in the interactive special “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidty: Kimmy vs the Reverend.” More recently, he starred alongside Steve Buscemi in the anthology comedy series on TBS, “Miracle Workers.

Morgan, without a doubt, isn’t new to the realm of humorous TV shows. Most recently, this comedy legend has made appearances in various guest spots for Disney Plus’s “The Santa Clauses” and CBS’s “The Neighborhood,” which is slated to conclude next year. Interestingly, the latter series has led to a spin-off for Morgan, where he will once again play Curtis Butler, a character related to Cedric the Entertainer’s persona from the multi-camera sitcom.

At this moment, there’s no news regarding whether the unnamed comedy will make it to the fall 2025 TV lineup on time. Since we’re only discussing a pilot order, there’s a chance we might not see its completion. However, considering the pairing of Morgan and Radcliffe, I find it hard to believe it would be delayed so early. Maybe they could use some magical intervention…
