Train to Busan Director’s New Netflix Thriller Will Leave You Breathless!

As a movie aficionado, I’m thrilled to share that the mastermind behind the smash zombie hit, “Train to Busan,” Yeon Sang-ho, is set to grace our screens once more, this time on Netflix. His upcoming film, “Revelations,” will officially debut on Mar. 21, 2025. A tantalizing new trailer has just been released, piquing our anticipation before its release. This crime thriller is a collaboration between Sang-ho and Choi Gyu-seok, the brilliant minds behind “Hellbound.” The story is derived from their original comic book creation. The star-studded cast includes Ryu Jun-yeol as Pastor Sung Min-chan, Shin Hyun-been as Detective Lee Yeon-hui, and Shin Min-jae as Kwon Yang-rae. Get ready for an exhilarating ride!

The official plot reads:

In this intriguing narrative, a pastor with faith in divine insights and a detective tormented by spectral visions jointly embark on a search for a missing individual. As they progress, both characters uncover and confront their inner struggles along the way.

In my latest venture, I’m diving deeper into the realm of realism instead of the fantastical landscapes I’ve previously explored. Rather than weaving magic and mystery, I’ve chosen to focus on the intricate tapestry of human psyche. This new project will delve into aspects like illusions, delusions, and traumas that are all too real in our world.

In the trailer, the narrative unfolds with a young girl vanishing, leaving a detective on the hunt for her potential abductor. Simultaneously, a pastor asserts that a divine message from God pertains to the missing child. The upcoming film, Revelations, promises another suspenseful adventure from the South Korean director, known for movies such as Jung_E and Penisula, as well as series like Hellbound and Parasyte: The Grey. He shared additional insights regarding the comic and cinematic adaptation.

The narrative primarily focuses on the intricate personalities of Pastor Sung Min-chan and Detective Lee Yeon-hui, who despite their similarities, take dramatically contrasting paths. I aimed to construct a tale centered around a protagonist with self-centered perspectives, an individual who selectively perceives and trusts only what he desires. As I conceived such a character to serve as a vessel for my storytelling within the chosen genre, Pastor Sung Min-chan of the new church emerged.

‘Train to Busan’ is a Modern Classic Zombie Film

Over the years, we’ve seen an abundance of zombie movies and TV series, particularly after “The Walking Dead” achieved massive success upon its debut in 2010. After the vampire genre became oversaturated in Hollywood, the focus shifted towards zombies, leading to varying outcomes. For every “Overlord” and “Zombieland”, there was a “Day of the Dead: Bloodline”. This is why “Train to Busan”, released in 2016, stood out (no intended pun) among viewers globally. It was a commercial success, grossing nearly $100 million worldwide, and currently boasts a fantastic 95% critical and 89% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

In the South Korean horror movie titled “Train to Busan,” the story unfolds as characters journey by high-speed train towards the city of Busan, where a zombie epidemic is in progress. The characters are skillfully crafted and despite it being a zombie film, “Train to Busan” has an action-packed feel. Stephen King himself endorsed it, tweeting in 2016, “TRAIN TO BUSAN: Wow, it’s like John Woo meets the zombie apocalypse. This makes THE WALKING DEAD seem mild.” You can stream “Train to Busan” on Netflix.

Revelations premieres on Netflix on Mar. 21, 2025.
