Within a short span since its debut, “The Traitors” has solidified itself as one of television’s top reality shows, with viewers engrossed in Season 3 on Peacock right now. This season has delivered some shocking moments that left many speechless. As a devoted fan, I can’t help but express my concerns about a particular element in the confessionals that is becoming increasingly irritating with each new episode.
Season 3 of “The Traitors” features an outstanding performance from its cast, despite some beloved characters getting eliminated prematurely (farewell to all those Housewives). Some viewers are still trying to find a way to watch Season 3, but I’m mostly puzzled by the strange filter applied to the cast during their confessional scenes. The filter makes them appear quite eccentric!
Confessionals play a crucial role in all reality TV series, but they are absolutely essential in “The Traitors”. This is the only opportunity where players can express their true feelings and share their hidden doubts and tactics while inside Alan Cumming’s castle. However, the filter used for these shots is incredibly jarring. I mean, take a look at Carolyn’s eyes in the picture above – it’s almost surreal!
From the start of Season 3 of The Traitors, it became apparent that something was different compared to Seasons 1 and 2. The unusual filter on the confessional camera made the cast members appear as if they were cartoon characters, with exaggerated colors, particularly noticeable for those with lighter-colored eyes.
I’ve noticed it affects how the cast’s makeup appears on-screen, giving an off-color impression. This makes it challenging for me to focus on the actual words of these reality TV icons during confessionals. Plus, I can assure you that the Housewives themselves would never step in front of a camera with their makeup less than perfect.
I can’t figure out why only one camera in The Traitors series has a filter applied to it, and moreover, why this filter is so intense. With today’s high-definition television, viewers are accustomed to seeing every detail on reality shows like Survivor, but the women in Season 3 of this show appear unusually wild during their confessional scenes. It seems less noticeable with male contestants, but it’s still striking. Is it too late to remove the filter for the rest of the season, or was this done intentionally? Regardless, the filtered shots give me the feeling that I’m watching an edited image rather than a real show.
Every Thursday, without a doubt, I find myself eagerly anticipating the latest installment of The Traitors. However, I can’t help but hope that the production team takes note and decides to remove the filter they’ve been using post-2025’s television debut. As a movie critic, I believe it would enhance the viewing experience for all.
