As a gamer and a father of six-year-old who shares my love for all things geeky, I can’t help but be thrilled about the upcoming release of “Transformers One.” It’s been a long time since I felt this level of excitement for a Transformers movie.
In September, the animated “Transformers: One” will hit theaters, and among the remaining films of 2024, it sits at the peak of my eagerness list. This movie has me genuinely thrilled to share the experience with my daughter, but I can’t help feeling equally enthusiastic for my own viewing pleasure. “Transformers: One” appears to cater to fans new and old alike, and there’s a unique factor about it that has been missing in this series up until now.
For the first time in years, I can’t wait for the upcoming Transformers movie to hit theaters. The anticipation is not just about hearing my favorite actors voice their animated robot counterparts; I must confess that I’m a fan of these actors across the board. However, what really gets me pumped is remembering certain aspects of the original Transformers film that have me eager to experience this fresh take on the franchise in cinemas.
Transformers One Feels Like The Perfect Starting Point For Kids To Get Into The Franchise
It’s interesting to consider both advantages and disadvantages when iconic Hollywood franchises continue for 40 to 50 years beyond their initial release. For many of us who have grown up with these series, we’ve observed how shows like Transformers have transformed from a children’s program into more complex content suitable for an adult audience over time.
For parents like us with kids, it can be challenging because while I’d enjoy sharing shows like Transformers with my six-year-old, most recent releases aren’t suitable for their age. We’ve already delved deep into the series’ lore, but finding a starting point that’s appropriate for them has been tough. Fortunately, we now have a film that takes us back to the beginning of it all, and it serves as an excellent introduction to the franchise I found fascinating when I was younger.
People who watched Transformers One early seem to believe it might become their preferred Transformers film, and I share this sentiment. As a dad, I’m hoping to nurture a bit of geekiness in my daughter if she takes to it. There’s always the possibility that it won’t resonate, but I sense I might be purchasing an action figure for her by the end of opening weekend. I don’t believe I would experience this response without a film that appeals to kids and has the unique chemistry between Shia Labeouf and Megan Fox on display.
The Movie Feels Like A Return To The Classic Animation Era, Which I’ve Missed
In my younger days, my introduction to the world of Transformers was primarily through animated series. Over time, as the franchise has evolved, there’s been a noticeable shift towards live-action actors and CGI technology, which has resulted in less animation being showcased. As I previously mentioned, this was a significant change. The enthusiasm among fans, including myself, was palpable when we discovered that a niche franchise like Transformers was receiving a more mature narrative and substantial Hollywood funding to create spectacular visuals of the Autobots and Decepticons on screen.
15 years have passed since the release of the initial Transformers movie, and with seven sequels following suit, the initial excitement of a more mature, grittier version of the franchise has waned for me. After Dark of the Moon, I chose to forego theater viewings and instead waited for streaming releases if I had the time to watch them at a later date. However, upon seeing the first trailer for Transformers One, my interest was piqued once more, and I am now fully on board again.
As a fan who grew up with the enchanting 1980s animated film, I can’t help but notice how remarkably similar this new animation is – it feels like a heartfelt tribute to those timeless moments of my childhood. It’s hard to believe that’s just a coincidence, given the vast number of Millennials who hold fond memories of that movie and long for a chance to relive that nostalgia. As a parent, this film offered me an exceptional opportunity to share that same magic with my child, something I cherish dearly. Hollywood doesn’t often provide such moments, so when they do, I seize the chance without hesitation.
Could Transformers One Result In The Franchise Shifting Away From The Live-Action Era?
Could it be possible that “Transformers One” could mark a significant shift in movie-making, causing future films to favor animation over live-action? Given the franchise’s resurgence among fans with movies like “Rise of the Beasts” and “Bumblebee”, and the upcoming G.I. Joe crossover, it’s worth pondering this possibility.
As a die-hard fan of Transformers One, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that we’ll see more installments in the future. In an interview with Collider, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura hinted at discussions for a trilogy, which means there could be two more movies to come. If these films live up to the hype like they did for me and many others, I’m all in for a complete trilogy!
In this period when cinemas are offering transformable popcorn buckets for blockbusters like “Beetlejuice,” there are some fantastic prospects for merchandising here, and I’d be thrilled if I could have a popcorn bucket that transforms into something else. However, I’m uncertain about the production process, but perhaps someone in the marketing team has already thought of this idea since modifying plans at this stage might not be feasible.
In essence, if a trilogy is created that tells the origin of this grand tale, I believe it will make it simpler to persuade my child to watch the live-action Transformers films later on. Even though she might not show more interest in watching Mark Wahlberg collaborate with the Autobots than she previously did, at least we’ll have the animated movie to reminisce about fondly.
Starting from September 20th, you can catch Transformers One in cinemas. I’m eagerly waiting to see Chris Hemsworth’s performance as Optimus Prime, and with such a stellar voice cast assembled, there’s no doubt they could revitalize this franchise by adding some fresh energy!
