Transformers One Producer Reveals How It's Connected to Live-Action Films

As a seasoned movie critic who has witnessed the evolution of the Transformers franchise since its inception, I must say that the upcoming film, Transformers One, is poised to revolutionize the live-action series in ways we haven’t seen before. With Chris Hemsworth stepping into the iconic role of Optimus Prime and Brian Tyree Henry breathing life into Megatron, this film promises to deliver a fresh take on the origin story of these beloved characters.

The upcoming live-action Transformers movie, titled “Transformers One,” produced by its filmmaker, is expected to make a big difference in the franchise. Starring Chris Hemsworth as Optimus Prime and Brian Tyree Henry as Megatron, this movie delves into their origin on the planet Cybertron. Known for being the best in the series, “Transformers One” could influence the future live-action films significantly, even though it may not align with the established cinematic universe’s continuity.

During an interview with ComicBook, veteran Transformers producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura talked about the upcoming animated film and its potential connections to the live-action versions. Although he acknowledges that establishing a direct link would be challenging and complex, Bonaventura hints at how the approach taken in Transformers One will influence the characterization and storytelling in other formats. While nothing from Transformers One directly transfers into the live-action realm, they won’t share the same continuity, but the animated film now sets a standard for what future projects aim to achieve.

Josh Cooley excelled at creating vivid characters for this movie, setting a high standard for live-action adaptations. While we may not directly replicate characters or incidents, his work will undoubtedly influence our future projects. We strive to bring something new to the table, yet we recognize the potential success of certain elements. I believe both universes can learn from each other in this way. By observing what works well in one, we can apply those lessons to the other. For me, as a filmmaker, the enjoyment lies in maintaining distinct worlds.

Following the final theater release of “Transformers One” in September, fans can expect to encounter these legendary characters again in a live-action setting, alongside another popular Hasbro franchise. The upcoming live-action “Transformers” movie will pick up where “Rise of the Beasts” left off, hinting at a crossover with G.I. Joe. Earlier this year at Cinema Con, Paramount Pictures announced that a Transformers-G.I. Joe film was slated to follow. At present, no official cast or crew for the movie has been revealed, though it’s rumored that Chris Hemsworth, who starred in “Transformers One,” is set to reprise his role as the main lead.

2021 saw Paramount unveil “Snake Eyes,” a spin-off of the G.I. Joe series featuring Henry Golding as the main character, intended to revive the franchise. Regrettably, the movie didn’t resonate with audiences and failed to make an impact at the box office. It remains uncertain whether this film will tie into the “Transformers” crossover or if Golding will return as Snake Eyes. However, Golding hinted at grand plans that the studio has for the upcoming movie.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura is both incredibly occupied and exceptionally talented as a producer. Rest assured, he’s the right person for the job. Regardless of the outcome, I believe it will be a blend of past achievements and future innovations. It seems Paramount has some ambitious, groundbreaking plans in store.

Transformers One
is set to release in theaters on September 20.
