In the year 2025, only a single film set for release will showcase over two dozen golf pros and at least one football pro. This isn’t another installment of The Expendables, but rather the long-awaited follow-up to Happy Gilmore, titled Happy Gilmore 2. Unlike its prequel, this Adam Sandler production is set to dive deeper into the realm of sports, although it’s unlikely you’ll see Travis Kelce in his Kansas City Chiefs jersey in the second installment.
In the recently unveiled trailer for Happy Gilmore 2, produced by Netflix, Kelce swapped his football gear for a waiter’s outfit, hinting at possible employment at either a country club or one of the golf courses where Happy and others will play. However, the ex-Super Bowl winner’s role in the sequel might have unfolded quite differently if Sandler & Co. had pursued one of their original concepts.
While appearing on Travis and Jason Kelce’s New Heights podcast, the Sandman said:
Six months back, I mentioned to you about taking on the role of my fictional character in our story. It brought up an amusing thought: “If you were my actual son, Travis, what a hilarious twist that would be!” Truly, you’re a remarkable individual!
Although it’s unclear what has happened to the character Happy Gilmore in the years following the first movie, it seems reasonable to assume that fans like myself would expect him to continue his casual lifestyle, regardless of any golf victories or hockey setbacks. So, it’s quite unlikely that his genes would produce a child with a physique similar to Travis Kelce, no disrespect intended towards Happy and Virginia.
Still, it would have been exciting to observe their collaboration as a father-son duo in a movie scenario. Interestingly, Kelce mentioned during his podcast that he can hit a golf ball up to 330 yards when imitating the walk-up style from Happy Gilmore – this could have added an interesting twist if they had chosen to cast him as Adam Sandler’s on-screen son in the NFL setting.
But learning this nifty detail now leaves me with a big question about the sequel.
Will Any Other A+ Celebs Play One Of Happy Gilmore’s Children?
If we take it as fact that Julie Bowen and Adam Sandler being in a movie together implies that Happy and Virginia are still a couple, then logically they could be the parents of the character Travis Kelce might have played. However, did the writers choose another notable figure to depict one of their children instead?
In Happy Gilmore 2, a number of cast members have been announced, but their roles haven’t been specified yet. There are rumors that AEW wrestler Maxwell Jacob Friedman might be playing one of the Gilmore siblings. Additionally, it’s speculated that the scene with Sandler and four younger actors in the trailer could depict Happy and Virginia’s children.
It seems plausible that this mystery character in the Gilmore clan could be the final piece to our puzzle, but I can’t shake off the feeling that Sandler & Co. might have secretly introduced another member. If we consider possibilities beyond the ordinary, Benny Safdie from ‘Uncut Gems’ could potentially fit the bill, though his age makes it an unlikely scenario. On the other hand, if we indulge in pure speculation, Eminem and Reggie Bush could be our wild cards for a fun twist.
It’s expected that you’ll be able to stream “Happy Gilmore 2” on Netflix sometime in 2025, but the exact release date has yet to be announced.
