Travis Kelce in Talks to Star in Action Comedy ‘Loose Cannons’ for Lionsgate

As a die-hard sports fan who’s always been intrigued by the fascinating world of Hollywood, I can’t help but cheer for Travis Kelce! The man’s got skills on the field and now he’s ready to dazzle us off it. His journey from the gridiron to the big screen is nothing short of inspiring, especially when you consider his budding romance with Taylor Swift, who seems to have a knack for dating superstars.

Travis Kelce is heading to the big screen.

The popular football player from Kansas City’s Chiefs team, who is dating Taylor Swift, has secured his debut role in a film as an actor for the first time.

Kelce will feature prominently in the upcoming action comedy “Loose Cannons,” which is currently being developed by Lionsgate. Chad Stahelski, renowned for directing the “John Wick” films and having a first-look deal with Lionsgate, is producing alongside Jason Spitz from 87Eleven Entertainment, as well as Alex Young. Tim Dowling, known for writing Adam Sandler’s comedy “Just Go With It,” is responsible for penning the script.

In this movie’s universe, each police precinct seems to harbor an off-the-rails, rule-bending officer. Instead of teaming them up with a by-the-book, straight-arrow partner like in most stories, here it’s all about matching the wild card with another free spirit. As a gamer, I can totally relate to this twist – it adds an exciting layer of chaos and unpredictability!

In “Cannons”, a pair of unpredictable officers find themselves teamed together when their police stations combine because of financial reductions. Neither of them are favored by their colleagues, so they’re left to tackle assignments that other officers can’t handle.

The script is characterized by elements reminiscent of “Lethal Weapon,” “Bad Boys,” and “Rush Hour,” iconic examples within the buddy action-comedy genre.

Cannons marks a significant milestone in Kelce’s journey up the Hollywood career ladder. Previously, the sports star expressed his desire to diversify into entertainment and has already made strides in this direction – he featured in an episode of Showtime comedy Moonbase 8 in 2020 and hosted Saturday Night Live in March 2023. His ambition to break into Hollywood became more pronounced when he signed with CAA talent agency in the spring of 2023.

After that, he’s agreed to take up hosting duties for a revamped version of “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader”, now called “Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity”, on Amazon. His debut acting role is set for the Ryan Murphy FX horror series “Grotesquerie”, which began filming in May.

Director Stahelski is deeply involved with Lionsgate’s major film projects, serving as the guardian of the John Wick series for the company. He is also working on a reimagining of Highlander, a potential franchise, which will begin filming next year following years of preparation.

Dowling gained recognition through a variety of large-scale comedies produced by studios such as Universal and DreamWorks. Some of these include “Role Models,” featuring Paul Rudd and Seann William Scott, and “Office Christmas Party,” starring Jason Bateman. He also collaborated on Adam Sandler’s 2015 comedy, “Pixels.” In the realm of action films, he was a co-writer for the romantic spy movie titled “This Means War,” which featured Tom Hardy, Chris Pine, and Reese Witherspoon.
