Trump Picks Brendan Carr as Next FCC Chair

As a longtime follower of the political landscape and a keen observer of the FCC, I am thrilled to see Brendan Carr taking on the role as the next chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Having served under President Trump since 2017, Carr has consistently demonstrated his unwavering commitment to free speech and his ability to stand up against regulations that stifle our freedoms and hinder economic growth.

President-elect Donald Trump has chosen FCC commissioner Brendan Carr to be its next chairman.

Trump appointed Carr, a senior Republican, to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) back in 2017.

Trump stated, “Commissioner Carr is a champion of Free Speech, battling against the restrictive legal tactics that have suppressed American liberties and hindered our economy. He will put an end to the excessive regulation that has been hurting America’s job creators and innovators, and make sure the Federal Communications Commission prioritizes rural America.

Earlier this month, Carr generated headlines, specifically on the day before the election, by asserting erroneously that Kamala Harris’ guest spot on Saturday Night Live breached the “equal time” rule. Contrarily, NBC communicated to the FCC that Democratic presidential candidate Harris was featured on SNL for free, without charge, for a duration of one minute and thirty seconds – which initiated an opportunity for other campaigns to ask for airtime from the network. On that very same day, the network granted Trump’s campaign time during its NASCAR and Sunday Night Football coverage as a response to Harris’ appearance on SNL.

I am pleased to announce that Commissioner Brendan Carr will be Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Commissioner Carr currently serves as the senior Republican on the FCC. Before that, he was the FCC’s General Counsel. I first nominated Commissioner Carr to the FCC in 2017, and he has been confirmed unanimously by the United States Senate three times. His current term runs through 2029 and, because of his great work, I will now be designating him as permanent Chairman.

As a gamer, I’m all about freedom of expression, and I’ve been battling against the excessive regulations that have been limiting our liberties and hindering economic growth. Commissioner Carr is my ally in this fight, ready to put an end to the regulatory overload that has been suffocating job creators and innovators across America. He’s committed to ensuring the FCC delivers for rural America, giving us all a fair shot at success.

Commissioner Carr has served at the FCC since 2012, including as an Advisor to then FCC Chairman, Ajit Pai. Earlier in his career, Commissioner Carr worked as an attorney specializing in Appellate, Litigation, and Regulatory matters. Previously, Commissioner Carr clerked on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit for Judge Dennis Shedd. After attending Georgetown University for his undergrad, Commissioner Carr earned his J.D. Magna Cum Laude from the Catholic University of America’s Columbus School of Law where he served as an Editor of the Catholic University Law Review. Congratulations to Chairman Brendan Carr on a job well done. Lead us into a great future, Brendan!
