Tubi CEO Anjali Sud to Keynote Banff World Media Festival

The head of Tubi, Anjali Sud, will deliver a keynote speech at the Banff World Media Festival, according to festival organizers who announced this on Wednesday.

In September 2023, Sud replaced Tubi founder Farhad Massoudi as head of Fox’s free, ad-supported streaming platform. She has now been announced as the first keynote speaker for the annual Summit Series at the Banff festival, which is set to take place from June 8 to 11 in Alberta, Canada’s Rocky Mountains during its 46th edition.

In January of this year, Tubi announced that it had exceeded 97 million monthly active users. This is an increase from the approximately 78 million monthly active users reported in mid-2024. The video streaming platform, which debuted in 2014, further stated that it streamed over 10 billion hours of content during the entire year of 2024.

Sud is anticipated to discuss the recent growth surge of her company, as Tubi navigates competition in the Free Ad-Supported Streaming Television (FAST) sector against prominent contenders like Pluto TV and Roku Channel. Notably, Tubi has broadened its content library to include over 275,000 movies and TV episodes, along with more than 300 original productions of their own.

Worldwide audiences are increasingly appreciating a high-quality entertainment experience that is not only free but also enjoyable and culturally relevant. Tubi has attracted a substantial and expanding fanbase by prioritizing viewers, and I’m eager to share our insights at the Banff World Media Festival this year,” Sud expressed in a statement before her appearance at Banff.

Free, ad-supported streaming services such as Tubi provide linear TV content, similar to traditional television. These services, often referred to as Free Ad-Supported Streaming Television (FAST), are increasingly popular among users. Meanwhile, big-name paid streaming providers are teaming up to cut costs and retain budget-conscious viewers by offering bundled packages.

In the upcoming months, I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled for more exciting details about the gaming festival in June. Previous speakers at the Summit Series include Rob Wade, Channing Dungey, Bela Bajaria, George Cheeks, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Paula Kerger, Pearlena Igbokwe, Ted Sarandos, and Maverick Carter – quite an impressive lineup, if you ask me!

As a gamer, I’m thrilled to share that organizers of the Banff fest and Netflix have announced the comeback of the Netflix-Banff Diversity of Voices Initiative next June 2025! This incredible opportunity will provide professionals from underrepresented communities with access to top industry players in Banff, opening up potential networking and dealmaking scenarios. It’s a fantastic step forward for promoting diversity and inclusion within our gaming community!

I’m thrilled to share that I’ve been selected as one of the lucky 75 individuals who will get an exclusive all-access pass to the Banff World Media Festival, complete with dedicated industry events tailored just for us! Additionally, I’m even more excited because I’m among the 25 participants chosen for personalized pitch sessions. This is truly a dream come true!

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m truly impressed by Banff’s dedication to opening up significant opportunities for Canadian creative minds. Over time, I’ve seen firsthand the transformative effects this program has had on countless careers, and it’s a cause that resonates deeply with me, particularly as the director of public policy at Netflix Canada. This initiative, jointly executed with the Black Screen Office, the Indigenous Screen Office, and the Reelworld Screen Institute, is a partnership I proudly support.
