As a seasoned fan of sports, fashion, and all things trendy, I simply must express my sheer delight at attending the TUNL Gala during New York Fashion Week! The star-studded event was nothing short of magnificent, bringing together athletes, rappers, and style icons in one glamorous gathering.
Notable sports figures, hip-hop artists, and style pioneers convened at the debut TUNL Gala during New York Fashion Week on Thursday evening at Spring Studios in Tribeca. The event was overseen by Lenny Santiago of Roc Nation and basketball player Chloe Pavlech. TUNL, derived from athletes’ pre-match attire, is a novel media platform merging media and online shopping, where sports and fashion collide. The Hollywood Reporter was the event’s media partner, and it was co-hosted by Spotify.
At the heart of TUNL’s identity, the space was reimagined as a chic lounge with a passageway reminiscent of a club, and upon arrival, guests were greeted with refreshing cocktails infused with tropical flavors. Inside, sneak peeks of merchandise, Instagram-worthy photo spots branded by Spotify, and a captivating collaboration between Zales and Prince showcased a beautiful lavender tennis racket bedecked with diamonds. The TUNL Gala further showcased bars serving cocktails crafted with D’USSÉ, while New York City classic chopped cheese sandwiches were circulated among the hungry guests.
Among the early attendees at the event was Miami Heat’s center, Bam Adebayo. He seized the opportunity of his early arrival, striking poses for photos at a Spotify installation, playfully interacting with a camera used by a photographer, and eventually settling into a cordoned-off seating area alongside his companions. The impressive guest list boasted names like Taraji P. Henson, super agent Rich Paul (who is also Adele’s fiancé), Rachel Lindsay, A$AP Ferg, Joan Smalls, Olympic gymnast Suni Lee, and the stylish David Banner.
The evening showcased performances by DJ Chase B and duo Angel & Dren, followed by the arrival of multi-Grammy winner DJ Mustard who concluded the night. In remembrance of the late rap legend Fatman Scoop, Mustard began his set with a touching tribute, declaring, “We’re here to party! Let’s celebrate for Fatman Scoop one time!” before playing “Be Faithful,” his hit collaboration with Crooklyn Clan.
Mustard’s show drew some of the night’s top basketball talents, such as Immanuel Quickley from the Toronto Raptors, Jaylen Brown of the Boston Celtics, Oshae Brissett (formerly with the Celtics), and Kevon Looney from the San Francisco Golden State Warriors. These NBA players found themselves near the DJ booth, enjoying the tunes.
Previously this past summer, Kysre Gondrezick and NBA star Brown made a striking appearance together at the 2024 ESPY Awards, marking their red carpet debut as a couple. They were undeniably one of the best-dressed pairs in sports, both adorning sleek all-black outfits. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Brown mentioned that he has a team of stylists to assist him throughout the year, but generally prefers to style himself. When asked about his preferred outfit, the Boston Celtics player responded, “I love every look I wear.
The gathering marked the beginning for TUNL, a joint venture between creative studio Versus and creative director Ashley Champ. Their mission is to connect the realms of high fashion and streetwear, making style more attainable for everyday shoppers. Additionally, they’re striving to consolidate sports and fashion content by partnering with designers and organizations, as well as launching an online marketplace.
