TV Ratings: ‘Beyond the Gates’ Has Promising Start for CBS (Exclusive)

During its debut week, the CBS daytime soap opera “Beyond the Gates” attracted quite a few viewers and drew them into its storyline.

The groundbreaking soap opera, “Beyond the Gates,” which features predominantly Black characters and hasn’t been seen in daytime television for over three decades, garnered approximately 2.28 million viewers across multiple platforms during its premiere week. This count includes viewings from streaming services and other forms of delayed viewing within that period, starting from Feb. 24.

On CBS, the show garnered an approximate total of 2.1 million viewers across three days, nearly equaling ABC’s General Hospital. Additionally, it surpassed ABC’s long-standing series in significant demographics such as adults and women aged 25 to 54. Streaming services contributed an additional 272,000 viewers to the first week’s viewership of Beyond the Gates. In total, approximately 5.2 million people tuned in for at least a portion of the show.

Beyond the Gates” exceeded last year’s ratings for “The Talk,” which it took over in CBS’ daytime schedule, showing a 78% increase in overall audience compared to the same week of 2024 for “The Talk.” Additionally, same-day ratings among women aged 18-49 and 25-54 increased by 56% year on year.

Approximately 55% of viewers who watched “Beyond the Gates” during its first week were African American, which is significantly higher than the 30%, 29%, and 22% of Black viewers for “The Bold and the Beautiful” on CBS, “The Young and the Restless,” and “General Hospital”, respectively.

In April 2024, CBS officially approved the production of “Beyond the Gates”. This series is a joint venture between CBS Studios and the NAACP, spearheaded by Sheila Ducksworth. Alongside this collaboration, it’s also backed by Procter & Gamble’s P&G Studios. Michele Val Jean, known for her work on “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “General Hospital”, serves as the creator, showrunner, and executive producer. Sheila Ducksworth, Robert Guza Jr., Julie Carruthers, Leon W. Russell, Derrick Johnson, Kimberly Doebereiner, and Anna Saalfeld also serve as executive producers on this project.

The actors appearing in the show include Tamara Tunie, Daphnee Duplaix, Karla Mosley, Clifton Davis, Alex Alegria, Lauren Buglioli, Brandon Claybon, Timon Kyle Durrett, Sean Freeman, Ben Gavin, Marquita Goings, Jibre Hordges, Jen Jacob, Maurice Johnson, Trisha Mann-Grant, Mike Manning, RhonniRose Mantilla, Ambyr Michelle, Colby Muhammad, and Arielle Prepetit.
