This year’s Golden Globes viewership has increased compared to the previous one, as reported by CBS.
On Sunday night, the awards ceremony, which was presented by Nikki Glaser, attracted approximately 10.1 million viewers, as per VideoAmp’s data. This represents an increase of over 7% compared to last year, when CBS broadcasted the awards for the first time in 39 years (since 1982).
Live streams on the CBS app and Paramount+ were up 9 percent from a year ago.
For a few months now, CBS has been relying on VideoAmp instead of Nielsen to supply its ratings, due to a contract disagreement between the two firms. While their measurements tend to be roughly comparable, they may not always align precisely.
Based on Nielsen’s data, the 2024 Golden Globes drew approximately 9.47 million viewers, marking a significant increase of 51% compared to the 6.25 million viewers who tuned in for the 2023 show, which aired on NBC in its final year. Similar to this year’s event, the 2023 Golden Globes had CBS’ late afternoon NFL game as a lead-in (and was broadcast opposite the last episode of the 2022-2023 NFL season on NBC). The finale of NBC’s Sunday Night Football game attracted an audience of 28.5 million viewers, according to Nielsen, which is the highest viewership for a Sunday Night Football season finale since 2012.
The enhanced performance, notably versus tough NFL competition, bodes well for the awards ceremony. This event is currently midway through a five-year contract with CBS, having moved from its longtime home at NBC.
The Golden Globe Awards are produced by Dick Clark Productions, which is co-owned by Penske Media Eldridge – a partnership between Penske Media Corporation and Eldridge, who also own The Hollywood Reporter.
