As a gamer who has witnessed the rise and fall of countless virtual realms, I must say, the saga of Westeros continues to captivate me like no other. The season finale of House of the Dragon may not have left me breathless, but the sheer number of viewers tuning in is nothing short of a battle won.
Despite some viewers feeling disappointed by the finale of House of the Dragon, many still chose to watch it.
On Sunday, the HBO series attracted its highest viewership of the season so far, with a total of 8.9 million viewers across all platforms. This represents a 14% increase compared to the season premiere in June, and roughly 800,000 more viewers than the previous record-breaking episode from the fourth installment, which had 8.1 million viewers.
HBO reports that the average viewership per episode in the second season has been 25 million, which is a decrease compared to the 29 million viewers for the first season of ‘House of the Dragon’. However, it’s important to note that this still places it among the largest seasons for any HBO series since the end of its predecessor show, ‘Game of Thrones’.
As a longtime fan of this particular show, I must admit that my viewing habits have changed dramatically over the years. In the past, I would eagerly wait for Sunday nights to catch the latest episode on HBO, gathering with friends to discuss and dissect each new development. However, in recent times, I’ve found myself more inclined to stream shows like this one on platforms such as Max.
On Sunday, it seemed we reached the halfway point for “House of the Dragon”. Showrunner Ryan Condal shared this information with reporters on Monday, revealing that the series is planned to last four seasons. Production for the third season is set to start in early 2025.
