A little over ten years ago, I was one of the 23.1 million viewers who tuned in to NBC for the Saturday Night Live (SNL) 40th anniversary special. Back then, television viewing was primarily linear and a significant number of U.S. households had cable or satellite subscriptions. The viewership for the 40th anniversary show was just 1.7 million short of that year’s Grammys. Fast forward to today, the gap between this year’s Grammys and SNL’s 50th anniversary special was around 600,000 viewers.
