As a long-time baseball enthusiast and a proud resident of Los Angeles, I must say that this year’s World Series was nothing short of electrifying! The Dodgers’ triumph over the Yankees not only reaffirmed their status as a formidable team but also brought back the magic of the Fall Classic to our living rooms.
The 2024 World Series goes in the books as the most watched Fall Classic since 2017.
The Los Angeles Dodgers clinched their victory in a five-game series against the New York Yankees with a thrilling 7-6 win on Wednesday. Across Fox Sports platforms – including the main network, Fox Deportes, and streaming services – an astounding 18.6 million viewers tuned in for this historic match, marking the highest viewership for a World Series game five in the past seven years.
In total, the recent World Series attracted an average of 15.81 million viewers across all broadcast mediums, marking it as the fourth most-watched championship for Major League Baseball since 2010. The only three World Series that have drawn larger audiences were in 2016 (with 22.85 million viewers), 2017 (18.93 million), and 2011 (16.52 million). Each of these series extended to a full seven games, with the series from 2017 being particularly similar to this year’s event.
In 2024, the World Series saw significant growth compared to the previous year, which hit an all-time low of 9.11 million viewers per game. This year’s viewership of 15.81 million represents a nearly 74% rise on a yearly basis.
On Wednesday night, the climactic match attracted 21.27 million viewers between 11:15 pm and 11:30 pm Eastern Time. Compared to the viewership of last year’s decisive Game 5 (11.48 million viewers), this year’s full broadcast saw a substantial increase of 58%. Both games were decisive contests.
As a die-hard baseball fan, I can’t help but rejoice in the massive success of the World Series this year! With star-studded teams hailing from our nation’s largest media hubs, the excitement was palpable. This triumphant event adds to an already impressive postseason for Major League Baseball (MLB). In fact, the previous three playoff rounds saw a significant surge in viewership – approximately 17% more than what we witnessed in 2023!
