As a gamer with a keen eye for ratings and a penchant for gripping narratives, I can’t help but be utterly captivated by the saga of Yellowstone. The sheer magnitude of its viewership is nothing short of astounding, reminiscent of the thrill of reaching the final boss in an epic game series. The numbers speak for themselves – it’s not just a show, it’s a cultural phenomenon that rivals the days of The Walking Dead on AMC.
Chalk up one more ratings superlative for Yellowstone as it (potentially) rides into the sunset.
On December 15, the season finale of the fifth season, which tidied up numerous storylines, attracted 11.4 million viewers on Paramount Network and CMT, as per VideoAmp data. This viewership marks the largest single-day audience (excluding repeat broadcasts and wider simulcasts) in the history of ‘Yellowstone’.
The 11.4 million viewers for the finale matches the three-day average for the first four episodes of season 5B, and it pulls the back half of the season to a night one average of 10.3 million viewers, up 4 percent from about 9.9 million across Paramount Network and CMT for the first part of season five in late 2022.
Yellowstone continues to set impressive rating milestones as it moves forward with its new phase, under the guidance of Taylor Sheridan. The premiere of season 5B, aired on November 10, attracted approximately 16.4 million viewers across two simultaneous broadcasts, subsequent replays, and an additional airing on CBS, which accounted for roughly one-third of the total viewership. This figure surpasses the 15.9 million viewers that tuned in for the season five premiere back in November 2022, again across multiple networks and replays. Since then, Yellowstone has become the most-watched cable show (excluding sports) since the peak of The Walking Dead on AMC during the mid-2010s.
Unlike any of the past record-breaking episodes of “Yellowstone”, Sunday’s installment garnered a significantly larger viewership during its first broadcast on Paramount Network and CMT alone.
Sheridan serves as the executive producer for the hit show “Yellowstone,” working alongside fellow creators John Linson, Art Lison, Kevin Costner, David C. Glasser, Bob Yari, Stephen Kay, Michael Friedman, Christina Voros, and Keith Cox.
