As a seasoned gamer and DIY enthusiast with a penchant for creating unique gaming spaces, I have to say that the Twinkly Squares Smart LED Light Panels have been nothing short of a revelation! After a year-long quest for an affordable yet high-quality LED solution, these tiles have proven to be the perfect find.
For about a year now, I’ve been on the hunt for some stylish RGB lighting for our gaming/workroom. When I got the chance to evaluate the Twinkly Squares, I couldn’t contain my excitement! Upon first glance at the product, I was amazed to discover that such stunning LED panels actually exist!
Today, allow me to share with you my honest review on the Twinkly Squares Smart LED Light Panels, a product I’ve been searching for as it promises high-quality lighting at budget-friendly prices.
You can be creative when placing the tiles
The LED tiles are virtually a
DIY solution
to lighting up any room, and I could place them however I wanted on the wall. There is a set of instructions in the box, but being the DIY queen that I am, I overlooked it completely.
Allow me to clarify my reference to the “DIY solution”. Upon opening this package, I found 5 individual LED tiles and a master tile inside. The versatility lies in the fact that you can arrange these tiles as you please, fostering creativity to design an eye-catching LED artwork for your wall.
Surprisingly easy installation process…
I was genuinely surprised at how easy it was to install and connect them together. The tiles are designed in such a way that all the cables can be fitted behind them neatly without showing. This is a huge plus, especially if you aim for a neat design, with just the panels showing.
Additionally, for a smoother experience, consider downloading the Twinkly app on your device and connecting the tiles using the same Wi-Fi network. The process of pairing the tiles with the app is straightforward – press and hold a button, and you’re all set!
…but maybe read the manual if it’s your first time installing LEDs
What I did not expect (and probably due to me not reading the instruction manual) was that each LED tile has to follow the master tile. I did try installing them to its left and right, but they would not light up. I figured I must have done something wrong, so off I went and placed them in the right spot.
Another important point to note is that the tiles must be positioned correctly, as they have a specific orientation (upright). If you fail to arrange them properly, even when connected, they might not function correctly. It’s possible that I’m being overly cautious, but I would suggest experimenting with different layouts before permanently installing them on your wall.
So many colourful display options!
Once I installed them and paired them with the app, I could finally get to switching the design shown. In the Twinkly app, I was hit by a myriad of colourful options – some of which I had no idea was even possible! They were all beautiful, and I had a tough time deciding, but eventually, I went with the Aurora Borealis option, which looked so much better than I expected!
If the existing designs fail to satisfy you, feel free to design something unique yourself. In my case, I attempted creating an item, but it didn’t turn out as expected due to a creative slump at the moment. Let’s chalk it up to that! As for the app, it’s incredibly user-friendly, so if there are any doubts about your ability to handle it, rest assured – if I could manage, then you undoubtedly can too.
The Twinkly Squares are silent and fit for any room
I had an experience in the past, where I had an LED strip (not from Twinkly) that was extremely loud. You could actually hear the electricity running through it, which probably wasn’t very safe, now that I think about it. That is most definitely not the case with the Twinkly Squares.
These tiles are truly quiet; you won’t find yourself surrounded by background white noise, puzzling over its origin. They are versatile and suitable for various spaces such as game rooms, lounges, bedrooms, or even bathrooms, depending on your preference.
I’ve noticed some nifty displays on the Twinkly site made with their Squares, and I’m seriously thinking about purchasing one or two Extension Kits as they are truly exceptional.
You can mix and match the products for a unique atmosphere, and sync them all together
Especially around the holidays, I think the Twinkly Squares could offer a pleasant atmosphere. You could pick the “Fireplace” design and set the tiles in a 3×2 layout for a beautiful pixelated fireplace.
One way to rephrase that sentence in a more natural and easy-to-read manner could be: “I’m excited about purchasing Extension Kits (each containing 3 extra tiles) along with Twinkly Dots (a strip of multicolored LEDs), and synchronizing them all for a complete makeover of my office.
The Twinkly Squares can be a great gift too, especially for someone who likes gaming and wants to add a little something extra to their home space. I know my boyfriend is in love with them!
