Twisters Star Glen Powell Reveals His Parents Cameo in All His Movies

As a huge fan of Glen Powell, I find his family tradition of having them appear in his movies nothing short of heartwarming. During his recent appearance on The Today Show, he shared a delightful secret about how his parents have made cameos in every one of his films, from Spy Kids 3 to Twisters. Seeing his parents, Cyndy and Richard Powell, sitting behind him and Daisy Edgar-Jones in Twisters was an absolute treat for me as a viewer.

The Twisters star made an appearance on The Today Show recently and shared a delightful secret with his fans. Apparently, Glen Powell’s parents have stealthily popped up in every one of his movies, from Spy Kids 3 to his latest blockbuster, Twisters. The charismatic actor, who is currently making waves for his performance alongside Daisy Edgar-Jones, opened up about the family tradition and how it’s made the bond between Powell and his parents stronger.

At the interview, Powell gleamed with delight as he revealed that his parents made a surprise appearance in Twisters. To illustrate, a video clip was screened displaying the couple, both wearing cowboy hats, seated behind Powell and Edgar-Jones’ characters in the film.

“During the middle of the rodeo scene in the film, my parents are seated close by Daisy Edgar-Jones and me. Keep an eye out for them in the next moment… Yes, they’re just behind us there…. Check it out.”

As a seasoned interviewer with years of experience under my belt, I’ve come across countless stories of parents’ unwavering support for their children’s careers. Yet, Powell’s tale stands out as particularly heartwarming. His parents, Cyndy and (presumably) Dan Powell, have been active participants in his movies for decades. They haven’t just been spectators; they’ve taken part in whatever capacity they could, contributing to the production in small yet significant ways.

The Powells Had a Blast on the Sets of Anyone But You

Glen Powell’s remarks make it evident that his parents have enjoyed visiting him on set for almost twenty years, starting with “Spy Kids 3.” He shared, “They’ve been a part of it since then. Yes, since ‘Spy Kids 3.’ I believe they’ve appeared in every production.” However, the romantic comedy “Anyone But You,” released in 2023, introduced a lively dynamic to this longstanding tradition. In one scene, Powell and his co-star Sydney Sweeney are depicted flying to Australia; Glen’s parents can be identified as fellow airline passengers.

Sharing a laughable incident from the film set, Glen spoke openly about his father’s unique acting abilities and jokingly referred to him as “Daniel Day-Lewis in slumber acting” in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

“The most amusing aspect of that scene is that my father, who’s an exceptional Method actor, was actually asleep during filming. I was underneath Sydney attempting gymnastics and frequently falling on me, requiring me to keep a straight face. In contrast, my father delivered a flawless performance as the ultimate sleeping actor, never breaking character.”

At just 35 years old, I’ve reached new heights in Hollywood as a leading man with major studio films under my belt. In my latest disaster thriller, “Twisters,” I play the daring role of Tyler Owens, a social media sensation who puts his life on the line. With its heart-pounding tornado sequences and powerful emotional connections, this movie is already creating a storm at the box office around the world. If it becomes the summer blockbuster many predict, my status as a franchise star will be set in stone.

Twisters is currently playing in theaters worldwide.
