‘Twisters’ Whips Up $10.7M in Thursday Previews

As a huge fan of disaster movies and a devotee of the original “Twister” film from 1996, I can hardly contain my excitement for the release of the long-awaited sequel, “Twisters.” The thunderous Thursday night previews, which brought in an impressive $10.7 million, have only fueled my anticipation further.

As a gamer, I’d say: “Wow, what a night at the box office! The new movie, Twisters, has hit it big with an impressive $10.7 million earned during its Thursday night previews.”

As we approach the weekend, forecasts indicate that “Twisters” could potentially earn between $40 million and $50 million in domestic box office sales. Some industry experts even predict that it may exceed these estimates. The most impressive single-day preview of 2024 so far has been Pixar’s “Inside Out 2,” which grossed $13 million on June 14, setting the stage for a record-breaking opening weekend of approximately $154.2 million.

Glen Powell, Daisy Edgar-Jones, and Anthony Ramos headline the cast of “Twisters.” This film, helmed by Lee Isaac Chung, who is known for his work on “Minari,” was filmed in Oklahoma, which is renowned as the tornado capital. Universal Pictures, Warner Bros. Pictures, and Amblin Entertainment collaborated on producing this feature. Domestic distribution will be managed by Universal Pictures, while overseas sales are under the responsibility of Warner Bros. Pictures International.

Twenty-eight years after the groundbreaking release of “Twister” in 1996, a new film titled “Twisters” emerges. This movie pioneered the fusion of visual and practical effects on screen. Starring the late Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt, and helmed by director Jan de Bont, “Twister” was an unprecedented box office success. Debuting with $41 million ($82 million adjusted for inflation) in its opening weekend, it went on to rake in a staggering $494.5 million worldwide ($992.08 million today).

Twisters joins the competition against the holdover films Longlegs, which took in $22.6 million during its debut last weekend, and Despicable Me 4 from Universal and Illumination, which raked in over $235.6 million domestically since its release over the July 4 holiday.
