Tyler, the Creator Wants To Personally Apologize To Eminem For His Initial Criticisms of 'Recovery'

As a fan who has followed both Tyler, the Creator and Eminem for years, I must say that this heartfelt apology from Tyler is a testament to personal growth and maturity. It’s not every day you see an artist acknowledge their past mistakes and extend a sincere apology to another, especially when it comes to public criticism.

Tyler, creator of Tyler, the Creator, intends to address past misunderstandings with Eminem by offering a sincere apology for the public criticism he levied against Eminem’s 2010 album, Recovery.

During an interview on the show “Mavericks with Mav Carter”, the artist behind IGOR admitted that the Netflix series Painkillers gave him a fresh perspective. Originally, when Recovery was released, Tyler openly criticized it, saying things like “This is terrible.” However, after watching Painkillers, he felt remorseful about those comments because, from his point of view, someone like me publicly expressing disapproval while he was off drugs and clean, implied that his struggle with addiction was insignificant.

“He mentioned that he likely perceived my comment as an attack. At the time, I believed I was simply stating ‘I don’t care for the music.’ However, he seems to have been in a different stage of life and may have felt attacked by my comment. Looking back now, I feel terribly remorseful about saying those things because my understanding was so narrow.”

Tyler went on to express his discomfort, stating, “I was really upset,” and added, “If I cross paths with him someday, I’d like to speak to him directly about it.” Additionally, he showed appreciation for Eminem, saying, “Eminem is my favorite. He taught me the art of rapping. It was his music that helped me understand the rhythm and structure of words, as well as storytelling techniques.”

As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but reflect on Eminem’s album, Recovery, as a deeply personal journey for him. Coming off a challenging battle with drug addiction, this masterpiece marked his triumphant return to the music scene. The album debuted at No. 1 and even earned a nomination for Album of the Year at the GRAMMYs. Additionally, the smash hit collaboration with Rihanna, “Love the Way You Lie,” was not only nominated for Song of the Year but also Record of the Year as well.
